Description

Join us for a real Viking adventure, and saddle up for a ride in the heart of Skagafjörður, North Iceland!

There is something truly special about horse riding in winter. Nature is sleeping, everything is silent, all you can hear is the steps of your horse in the snow. It is a peaceful, magical experience like no other. You feel like the first explorers of Iceland over 1000 years ago.

Let our strong and sturdy horses carry you into the frozen wilderness of our remote valley at the edge of the inhabitable world. Survival has always been a challenge for these horses throughout the centuries, and the exposure to the harsh Icelandic elements has made them exceptionally tough.

They were the fearless, loyal and reliable companions of the Vikings, and now you can meet this legendary animal yourself!  You will experience the unique strength of the Icelandic Horses first hand while riding on the frozen trails leading to the majestic waterfall, Reykjafoss. Watching the winter sun reflect on the thousands of icicles surrounding the falls is a magical experience.

The flat tops of the Tröllaskagi mountains looming on the horizon provide the perfect backdrop to your adventure. These mountains are said to be a home for many trolls and ghosts. Who knows? We might even meet some of them during our tour.

During the trip, our professional guides will tell you about the unique characteristics and history of the Icelandic horses. You may also try the tölt, a gait unique to these horses, that lets you ride in complete comfort.

Whether you are a first-time rider or a professional, this tour is an unforgettable experience! We provide thick thermal overalls for our riders to keep them warm throughout the journey.

Please note that the weight limit for riders joining the tour is 220 lbs (100 kilograms).

Be prepared for all kinds of weather and wear lots of layers! We recommend thermal underwear, sweater(s) and a windproof jacket as well as gloves, a scarf and warm socks. Wear comfortable pants and strong shoes (hiking boots are fine). We will provide you with a helmet and rain gear or a snow suit. Please note that we require you to wear a helmet when riding with us, so if you'd like to wear a woollen hat or headband, make sure it's a thin one and fits comfortably under a helmet.

In case you bring your own riding clothes and boots, they must be disinfected before you arrive. It is prohibited by Icelandic law to bring used riding gear including saddles, bridles, etc. into the country, as well as used leather riding boots, other leather riding wear or riding gloves. Riding clothes, rubber riding boots and any other gear should be machine-washed (min. 40°) or dry-cleaned (chemically cleaned), and disinfected with VirkonS®.

We reserve the right to alter any itinerary in the guests' best interest and for reasons of safety. This will not reduce the quality of our tours.
