Get deep into the ethereal Thorsmork Nature Reserve with a local expert and enjoy 4 hours of hiking in the untouched wilderness. This tour is for anyone who wants to explore the jaw-dropping panoramic views of Thorsmork on foot.
Thorsmork is one of Iceland’s gems. The landscape is dramatic, as its name suggests. Thorsmork means “Valley of Thor”, named after the Viking Thunder God. It’s located in South Iceland, nestled between three volcanic glaciers, Myrdalsjokull, Tindfjallajokull, and the famous Eyjafjallajokull. You will view the mind-blowing wilderness and landscapes while breathing in the fresh mountain air.
The tour departs from the town of Hvolsvollur in South Iceland, a 1.5-hour drive away from Reykjavik. On your way into Thorsmork, you'll stop at some beautiful locations such as Gigjokull, an outlet glacier from the larger Eyjafjallajokull. The landscape in this area changed dramatically in 2010 when a volcano under Eyjafjallajokull erupted, causing massive glacial floods that consumed the region.
You will drive from location to location in a super jeep, a specially adapted vehicle capable of handling rough terrain and unbridged rivers. The jeep allows you to experience the magnificent power and colors of the highlands, with canyons, hanging glaciers and glacial rivers all around, set amongst birch trees and vivid green moss-clad rocks.
Once in Thorsmork, you'll hike through this magnificent valley, accompanied by your driver and guide, who is more than happy to share their knowledge of Icelandic nature, as well as the strange traditions and folklore surrounding the region.
So lace up your hiking boots and come along on an adventure in the Highlands of Iceland. Visit the magnificent Thorsmork Valley on this fun-filled super jeep tour. Check availability by choosing a date.
