Description

Saddle up for an exciting two to three-hour afternoon ride with the friendly and strong Icelandic horse. This tour is perfect for experienced riders who are looking for a thrilling adventure and want to enjoy Iceland's stunning countryside on horseback.

With group sizes limited to 20 people or fewer, this tour ensures that each rider gets personal attention from the guide and can fully appreciate the natural surroundings. You’ll enjoy a more intimate and tailored experience, allowing you to bond with your horse and take in the beauty of Iceland while you ride.

If you choose to add the transfer service during the booking, the adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from your accommodation in Reykjavik. You’ll be driven to the horse stables, located in the picturesque town of Hafnarfjordur, just outside the city.

Once you arrive at the stables, you will meet your experienced guide for the day, who will introduce you to the incredible Icelandic horse, a breed known for its friendly nature and smooth riding pace. Your guide will share some fascinating history about these horses, whose origins trace back to the Viking settlers.

Once matched with your horse, you’ll be ready to head out into the beautiful landscape. The ride takes you towards Heidmork forest, a scenic nature park that has been the site of a massive reforestation effort.

Thousands of trees, particularly spruce, have been planted here to restore Iceland’s woodlands. As you ride through the park, you’ll pass lush vegetation, wildflowers, and tranquil ponds that attract a variety of bird species.

Be sure to ask your guide about the night trolls, three distinct rock formations atop a distant mountain. Legend has it that these trolls were caught in the light of the morning sun and turned to stone after spending the night arguing over a whale they wanted to feast on.

Throughout the ride, you'll have the opportunity to experience the Icelandic horse’s famous gaits or riding paces, including the tolt, a smooth and comfortable pace unique to this breed. You’ll canter, trot, and tolt through the countryside, enjoying the fresh air and breathtaking views.

After an incredible two-and-a-half to three-hour experience, you will return to the stables to enjoy some hot drinks and ask your guide any remaining questions you might have about this magnificent animal.

If you chose to add the transfers, you will then be conveniently dropped off near your accommodation in Reykjavik city. Ending the day filled with incredible memories of your adventure.

Don’t miss this chance to explore Iceland’s incredible landscapes on the back of one of its most iconic animals and join this scenic horseback riding tour through the countryside! Check availability now by choosing a date.
