Description

Add an exciting twist to your northern Iceland holiday with this fun-filled rafting tour on one of the country’s greatest glacial rivers. Cruise down the river of Vestari-Jökulsá, located in the beautiful Skagafjörður valley. This tour is perfect for those eager to spice up their trip with an adventure they’ll never forget.

The tour starts in the little village of Varmahlíð where you meet your friendly guide who'll drive you to the beautiful glacial river. Once there, you will be given all the equipment needed to keep you warm and safe on your journey. You will also receive a safety briefing where you’ll get to practice how to manoeuvre the craft before you board your boat.

Vestari-Jökulsá, or West Glacial River, originates in Iceland’s third largest glacier, Hofsjökull, and is one of the many rivulets that join and fall to the North. The river runs through a relatively levelled area, past both deep ravines and narrow valleys, making this tour is perfect for both beginners and experts alike.

Once on the river, you will enter the mighty West Glacial Canyon, with its high walls and towering cliff faces. You will then paddle along the white river between enormous rock gorges covered in luscious green flora.

The village of Varmahlíð and its surroundings are a well known geothermal area, so you should keep an eye out for a line of steaming hot springs on the river bank as you move along the stream’s gentle pace.

Along the way, you will make a stop where the daredevils in the group can pump up their adrenaline by jumping off a cliff into the river. To warm you up, you will also be given a hot chocolate to enjoy while surrounded by the breathtaking scenery.

After the tour, you’ll board the bus and head back to Varmahlíð where you can spend some time relaxing and unwinding after a day out on the river, in energising geothermal hot pools.

Book this family-friendly tour now and spend the day enjoying the beautiful Icelandic nature in an entirely different way. Check availability by choosing a date.
