Description

Come aboard on a whale watching tour and see the wealth of marine life that dwells in the waters near the Arctic circle. This tour is perfect for anybody travelling the Westfjords and wants to see Iceland’s largest residents.

The tour departs from the small and remote town of Hólmavík, located in the Westfjords of Iceland. The Westfjords are one of the most stunning but least visited places in the country and so you’ll get to see the whales in their natural, unspoilt, habitat.

You will spend about two hours on the water, among the wildlife and beautiful landscape. Your captain will steer you towards the best place to spot the local whales, tell you about each animal you see and answer any questions you may have about the area.

In the summer, Steingrímsfjörður Bay is the home of several species of whales, the most common one being the humpback whale. This particular species is a favourite among many whale watchers as the humpback is considered to be the most playful, curious and friendly of all whales.

Humpbacks are not the only species in the waters; you can also expect to see minke whales and white-beaked dolphins. On rare occasions, orcas (or killer whales), pilot whales, sperm whales, and even blue whales have been spotted.

Nature is unpredictable, so every tour is a new adventure; you never know what you are going to see. You might see the whales jumping out of the ocean, socialising, feeding or just basking in the sun near the surface.

Several species of nesting birds can be found in Steingrímsfjörður bay and so you should keep an eye out for the bright beaks of puffins and arctic terns. The area is also well known for large and tasty mussels, so if you're hungry when you reach the shore, this is a great opportunity to taste some.

Don’t miss your chance to see the magnificent wildlife in Iceland’s Westfjords. Book now to secure your spot on this excursion. Check availability by choosing a date.
