Come along on an excursion of the marine life of Breiðafjörður Bay. This whale watching tour is perfect for all nature lovers who are travelling the Snæfellsnes peninsula and want to add an adventurous twist to their holiday.

You will set sails from the little village of Ólafsvík and head straight out into Breiðafjörður Bay, where your captain will find the best place to spot the magnificent whales. As you cruise the ocean, your expert guide will tell you all about each creature you see and answer any questions you may have about the area.

The oceans along the Snæfellsnes coastline is the best place to see two of Iceland’s top predators; Orcas, also known as killer whales, and sperm whales. The Orcas are apex predators, which mean that no other animal feeds on them, while the majestic sperm whale is the world’s largest predatory animal.

Other species of whale also make Breiðafjörður Bay their home, such as minke whales, harbour porpoises, acrobatic white-beaked dolphins and enormous humpback whales. On rare occasions, pilot whales have been spotted migrating from the high seas towards the island in search of food.

Breiðafjörður Bay is also known for its diverse birdlife, so you should keep an eye out for those brightly coloured beaks of puffins and arctic terns as you sail along the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Snæfellsnes combines all the wonders of Iceland. There you can find stunning waterfalls, imposing cliffs, jagged lava fields, sandy shores and amazing wildlife. Looming over the area is Snæfellsjökull, a 7000-year-old stratovolcano with a glacier covering its summit.

Don't hesitate. Grab your chance now to see the whales, dolphins, birds and breathtaking landscapes of West Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.

My wife and me spent five unforgettable days in Iceland. As a closing event we booked a whale watching boat trip starting from Ólafsvík. (That day was our 10th wedding anniversary.) Booking and finding the location was simple. After checking in for the programme everybody received a waterproof overall (without that we could hardly survive) and boarded the ship. Luckily we found the best location in the very front of the open deck, so we could watch the ocean into all directions. Our guides were all professional and explained a lot about marine life. And finally... yes, we met the minke and humpback whales. Observing these giants from only 10-20 meters was something that we will never forget. It was a typical 'once in a lifetime' experience. Many thanks for this wonderful tour!

Absolutely incredible!! We ended up finding a "mega pod" as our guide called it, very quickly. Everywhere you looked there were pilot whales and dolphins. It was amazing!! The weather was perfect and the water was so calm. Such a great tour!!

We saw a pod of ten killer whales and a calf and a minke whale. Easily the best experience I’ve ever had. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and easy to understand. He was happy to answer any questions and frequently checked on everyone’s well being. The dry suits provided were fantastic. I was warm and comfortable at all times. When initially arriving for the tour the meeting point was hard to find and empty due to them being out at sea on another tour. I feel that maybe a notice in the window would have been helpful as being the first to arrive we were worried that no one was going to turn up.

Things started out slow, with nothing seen at all during the first 2 - 2 1/2 hours but ended with a bang, and the captain/guide kept it going a little longer as we spotted dolphins, a humpback, and a big pod of orcas that were around us in every direction. While nature dictates what's seen since this is the wild and you never know for sure how it will go, my only suggestion would be more commentary in regard to the whales and other marine life, and even the region itself when there isn't anything going on -without the whales showing up it would have been a pretty boring trip out on the water. I've been on many similar tours and usually that's part of it but that was very limited. Other than that, it was a fantastic experience thanks to our fortune at finding the whales (and dolphins) and the scenery on this peninsula is truly some of the best in the world.

The whale watching tour was absolutely amazing from start to end. Very helpful, enthusiastic and insightful guides. We were provided dry suits, as the temperature drops dramatically in deep sea and there was rain. We were very lucky to see all the fjord's maritime species.. and in number, including: white-beaked dolphins, a minke whale, humpback whales, orcas (over 20), a sperm whale and a puffin. Great experience at a reasonable price. An absolute recommend!!

We had a fantastic time on our whale watching tour. We soon found whales, firstly a sperm whale and then a small pod of Orca's. All in all we spent an hour with Orca's and sperm whales near the boat. The trip we had was amazing.

The whale watching trip was amazing, we saw many orcas, humpbacks and penguins almost immediately after we set off from the harbour. The guides were very helpful!
