Classic 3-Hour Whale Watching Adventure from Reykjavik
Description
Summary
Description
Hop aboard and sail out on Faxaflói Bay to meet the largest inhabitants of Iceland, the whales. Faxaflói Bay is the home to many different species of whale throughout the year, and they are more than willing to say hello to you. This is a tour perfect for any lovers of wildlife and authentic natural wonders.
You will meet with the tour provider by the Old Reykjavík Harbour, where you will turn in your voucher in exchange for a ticket to the whale watching boat, and visit the Whale Watching Centre which is facilitated onboard an old fishing vessel that is permanently docked by the pier.
In the centre, you can enjoy interactive multimedia shows about whales and marine wildlife around Iceland. Your guide will meet you there and show you to your boat. Then it is time to head out to the vast Faxaflói bay armed with binoculars—and, of course, your camera.
As this tour takes place on the open water, it can get mighty cold and windy, even in summer, so please take care to dress warmly and bring a hat and gloves. Windbreaker jackets are recommended, as well as waterproof underlayers in the case of rain. There are overalls on board you can use.
Summer season is great for whale watching, as the wildlife in the bay is at its highest peak. This is the time when the minke and humpback whales are the most abundant. The white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises, however, are residents year round.
Occasionally, other species are spotted such as the enormous fin whale, the orca or killer whale, and even blue whales, the largest mammal in the world. The chances of spotting whales vary in accordance with food availability of the shores, but the sighting success of this tour exceeds 90%.
If no whales or dolphins are seen on your tour you will receive a complimentary ticket valid for two years, so if you're in a hurry, there is no need to worry.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to behold the gentle giants of the sea. Check availability by choosing a date.
