Hop aboard and sail out on Faxaflói Bay to meet the largest inhabitants of Iceland, the whales. Faxaflói Bay is the home to many different species of whale throughout the year, and they are more than willing to say hello to you. This is a tour perfect for any lovers of wildlife and authentic natural wonders.

You will meet with the tour provider by the Old Reykjavík Harbour, where you will turn in your voucher in exchange for a ticket to the whale watching boat, and visit the Whale Watching Centre which is facilitated onboard an old fishing vessel that is permanently docked by the pier.

In the centre, you can enjoy interactive multimedia shows about whales and marine wildlife around Iceland. Your guide will meet you there and show you to your boat. Then it is time to head out to the vast Faxaflói bay armed with binoculars—and, of course, your camera.

As this tour takes place on the open water, it can get mighty cold and windy, even in summer, so please take care to dress warmly and bring a hat and gloves. Windbreaker jackets are recommended, as well as waterproof underlayers in the case of rain. There are overalls on board you can use.

Summer season is great for whale watching, as the wildlife in the bay is at its highest peak. This is the time when the minke and humpback whales are the most abundant. The white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises, however, are residents year round.

Occasionally, other species are spotted such as the enormous fin whale, the orca or killer whale, and even blue whales, the largest mammal in the world. The chances of spotting whales vary in accordance with food availability of the shores, but the sighting success of this tour exceeds 90%.

If no whales or dolphins are seen on your tour you will receive a complimentary ticket valid for two years, so if you're in a hurry, there is no need to worry.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to behold the gentle giants of the sea. Check availability by choosing a date.

I´ve been on few whale watching tours with Elding before and I highly recommend it. This company is both incredibly professional and eco-friendly, which is a big plus for me. The Elding staff were helpful, the guides were passionate and very knowledgeable and the captains were truly considerate of the wildlife. Loved the experience. Highly recommend it!

Been whale watching all over Iceland numerous times and can say for sure that Elding is by far the most reliable operator there is! The tours are whale friendly and the captains are careful around the animals and make sure to not chase them or stay in the same area for too long to give the whales a break. Would definitely recommend!

the staff is awesome, the yacht captain was also driving us from the hotel and has been very helpful and very accommodating; the lady on watch from the turret was very knowledgeable and welcomed us on board with a very witty sense of humour. We were fortunate enough to see Minke whales and Humpback whales under very good weather. We will be back again, next time with our kids !

Good company and professional staff. They are the oldest operating whale watching company in Reykjavik and have all sorts of green certificats. They offer you to come again for free if you didn't see anything. We were lucky to see a Humpback whale! Would definitely recommend this company!

Guide was knowledgeable, can tell he's passionate about whales, better than most guides I had in Iceland. Saw a killer whale at a distance, mostly fin a few times and a little bit of its back once.
