Combine the thrill of ziplining with the adventure of glacier hiking on this 4-hour guided tour of Solheimajokull Glacier in South Iceland. Perfect for nature lovers and adrenaline seekers, this small-group experience lets you explore one of Iceland’s most stunning ice caps on foot before soaring through the air for a unique view of its icy expanse.
As part of the experience, every guest also receives professional portrait and landscape shots of both the glacier hike and the zipline ride. These souvenirs give you incredible memories to take home and share.
Your journey begins at the Solheimajokull parking lot, located on Iceland’s South Coast. Just a short detour from the Ring Road, this glacier activity is easy to combine with visits to other nearby highlights like the Skogafoss waterfall and is perfect for those on a self-drive tour.
At the parking lot, your friendly, certified glacier guide awaits. After a short introduction to the day ahead, you’ll set off on a scenic walk across flat, rocky terrain toward the glacier’s edge.
The pace is easygoing to moderate, giving plenty of time to enjoy the surrounding landscapes and ask questions as your guide shares insights into the region’s history and geology. All necessary glacier gear, like crampons, helmets, and harnesses, will also be provided.
Once you reach the glacier, the real adventure begins. With crampons securely fastened, you’ll step onto the ice and feel the satisfying crunch beneath your boots. Hiking across the frozen surface is a one-of-a-kind experience.
Blue ice, ash-black layers, crevasses, and striking ice formations create an otherworldly backdrop as you navigate the ice. Along the way, you’ll learn how Iceland’s glaciers are shaped by time, weather, and volcanic activity, adding an educational layer to the excitement.
The highlight of this small-group tour is next, a rare glacier zipline of Solheimajokull. Glacier ziplining is one of the newest and most exciting activities to do in the region to appreciate the might of Icelandic glaciers.
After a safety briefing, you’ll clip into your harness and launch into the air. You’ll glide high above the ice with a unique perspective of the glacier below and rugged Icelandic landscapes beyond.
After your zipline adventure, you’ll hike back across the glacier and return to the parking lot. Guests who prefer not to zipline can still join the tour, but have to stay with the group throughout the experience. The glacier hike and views while watching companions soar overhead are also great opportunities.
All equipment is provided, and experienced guides ensure safety and support throughout the trip. On your part, don’t forget to wear sturdy shoes or boots and warm layers for the best experience, and bring your sense of adventure.
