Aurora Basecamp Observatory Iceland
Did you know that Aurora Basecamp is the only Northern Lights Observatory in Iceland??
I discovered this place just recently and already is my favourite and to-go spot to watch the magic of the northern lights!
If seeing the northern lights is on your wish list then you need to go here!
Aurora Basecamp is a beautiful facility designed to give you a good Aurora Borealis experience. It’s amazing that is so close to the city yet feels like you have entered another world ounce you get there! There are three domes on site. Two of them are cozy lounges furnished with tables and benches and with plenty of delicious hot chocolate for warming up on the cold winter night. The other dome contains a small educational exihibition where the guide will give you all the information about the different stages of the northern lights. This introduction takes about 10-15 minutes. The visit to the Dark Park, how the education dome is called, ends in the outdoor area that is low lit with benches around open fire so that you can stay warm while admiring the endless space or while you wait for the magic to happen!
Overall it was a great experience. All so friendly, informative and they really know what they are talking about!
And it was a successful night as the lights appeared and danced so gracefully over us!
Totally worth it if you are near the capital and need a good Aurora spot!
I highly recommend to book in advance as these tours tend to sold out quickly when the northern lights prediction is high!
