I am Ana and I live in Reykjavík, Iceland. I am from Portugal but moved to Iceland 17 years ago! I work for Lyfja, the biggest pharmacy chain in Iceland and on my free time I love to travel around Iceland.

Even after 17 years of living in this beautiful country I am still in awe with its beauty and i love to explore and get to know new places. I love a good road trip!

I am very excited to be new here and look forward to see what the future holds! Also looking forward to connect with people and help you to getting to  know Iceland!

We took a ferry to Viðey on a whim.

Some days in Iceland feel almost too perfect to be real. The sun is warm, the sky is clear, the sea is calm, and there isn’t a breath of wind. These are the days you remember, especially because they are so rare. That is exactly how our day on Viðey began. On a whim, we decided to take the ferry from Reykjavík to this small island just a few minutes from the city. We didn’t really have a plan. I packed a few snacks, we brought a blanket, and off we went, hoping simply to enjoy a few quiet hours surrounded by nature. The moment we arrived, everything seemed to slow down. Surrounded by the s

Sjávarpakkhúsið Restaurant Experience

I recently had the pleasure of visiting and trying the menu at Sjávarpakkhúsið, a lovely restaurant in Stykkishólmur, right at the charming harbour.    Stykkishólmur is a beautiful town situated in the western part of Iceland, in the northern part of the Snæfellnes península, where most of the people make their living from fishing and tourism. Stykkishólmur also has the most charming and colourful houses in Iceland! Our table was reserved for 7pm and when we arrived we were warmly greeted by the staff and directed to our table. The restaurant was small with fishermen pictures h

One Random Sunday

I called the Wilderness Center because I was bored… It turned into one of my best days in East Iceland. Some of the best travel memories aren’t carefully planned. They happen when you least expect them. One Sunday, while staying in East Iceland, I woke up with absolutely nothing planned. No hikes, no sightseeing, no road trip. Just one of those days when you wonder, “What should I do today?” Feeling a little bored, I decided to do something completely random. I called the Wilderness Center near Egilsstaðir and asked, “Hi… I’m a bit bored. Would it be okay if I came to visit?” Luckily for

A magical escape at Laugarás Lagoon and Ylja Restaurant

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Iceland´s newest addition to it´s collection of geothermal sanctuaries, the breathtaking Laugarás Lagoon, nestled right in the heart of the Golden Circle. From the moment I arrived, I knew this place would be different. Laugarás Lagoon isn´t just another lagoon, it´s a masterpiece of design, atmosphere and pure Icelandic serenity. What struck me first was the harmony in every detail. The building embraces a palette of soft neutral tones that immediately put you at ease. It´s elegant without trying too hard, from the gentle colour combinations to th

Discovering the charm of Sjávarborg Guesthouse in Stykkishólmur

I was lucky enough to be invited by the lovely Sigga, the owner of Sjávarborg Guesthouse, and I can honestly say this place is a hidden gem on the northern coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in western Iceland. Nestled right in the heart of the postcard-perfect town of Stykkishólmur, Sjávarborg is more than just a guesthouse, it’s a home away from home filled with charm, warmth, and a whole lot of character. Stykkishólmur itself is known for its colorful houses, rich history, and stunning harbor views, and Sjávarborg fits right in with this magical vibe. The guesthouse sits just steps from

Hvammsvik Hot Springs: A slice of Icelandic heaven by the sea

Nestled on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in the serene and stunning Whalefjord (Hvalfjörður), Hvammsvik Hot Springs is a must-visit gem just 45 minutes from Reykjavík. The scenic drive itself is worth the trip, offering breathtaking views of Icelandic nature, mountains, fjords, and endless sky. Hvammsvik is unlike any other geothermal spa in Iceland. With eight natural hot springs of varying sizes and temperatures, each pool offers a unique experience, all while surrounded by rugged coastal beauty. Some pools are nestled among rocks right at the ocean’s edge, where the tide gently touc

SKÁL! in Reykjavík: nordic flavors with a modern twist

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Skál!, a restaurant that has quickly become a beloved spot in downtown Reykjavik. Originally nestled in Hlemmur Mathöll, Iceland’s first food hall, Skál! relocated to Njálsgata 1 in 2024, offering a fresh yet familiar experience for its guests. From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped by a relaxed and inviting atmosphere and I knew that this was going to be a hell of a gastronomic experience! The restaurant’s dark tones and minimalist décor, complemented by ample windows, create a cozy yet open space that’s perfect for unwinding after a lo

Experience the magic of Whale Watching with Northsailing - where breathtaking encounters with gentle giants await!

Last summer, I embarked on a unforgettable whale-watching adventure with North Sailing in Húsavík, often hailed as the whale-watching capital of Iceland. Opting for the last tour of  the day under the mesmerizing midnight sun, I was greeted with unexpectedly mild temperatures and a serene, windless evening, conditions that seemed almost tailor-made for our excursion. As we set sail from the harbor, the anticipation among fellow passengers was palpable. The tranquil waters of Skjálfandi Bay stretched before us, promising encounters with some of the ocean´s most majestic creatures. It wasn´t
