Narfeyrarstofa Restaurant in Stykkishólmur

🇬🇧 Narfeyrarstofa is a charming and very welcoming restaurant in Stykkishólmur, a family business and a gem in this wonderful city that I love so much and that makes me always want to come back! It is right in the heart of the city with stunning views of the port of Stykkishólmur and has a very cozy and romantic atmosphere!   In December of last year, Steina invited me to come and try the menu, which I accepted with great enthusiasm, wasn’t I a "good eater"! 😀 I went there recently and today I share my experience with you.   Steina and Sæþór are very sweet and welcomed us very well

Sjávarpakkhúsið Restaurant Experience

I recently had the pleasure of visiting and trying the menu at Sjávarpakkhúsið, a lovely restaurant in Stykkishólmur, right at the charming harbour.    Stykkishólmur is a beautiful town situated in the western part of Iceland, in the northern part of the Snæfellnes península, where most of the people make their living from fishing and tourism. Stykkishólmur also has the most charming and colourful houses in Iceland! Our table was reserved for 7pm and when we arrived we were warmly greeted by the staff and directed to our table. The restaurant was small with fishermen pictures ha

A day exploring with Ice Guide

🇬🇧 Exploring ice caves and walking on top of glaciers is something I never get tired of doing and that's why I returned in March to the same places I was in early January but this time I joined Ice Guide. Ice Guide is a small family business located in the town of Höfn in South East Iceland. This time I stayed at a guesthouse in Höfn because I wanted to explore the area a bit and visit places that I hadn't been to for many years.   I left Reykjavík early on a Friday so that I could stop along the way and visit some places and also make the journey to Höfn in a relaxed manner.

Ice Cave Discovery With Local Guide of Vatnajökull

🇬🇧 In February I had one of the best weekends of my life! Even though it was right in the middle of winter with snowstorms and bad weather, this exact weekend the weather was always at my side and it was two spectacular days, with sun, clean roads with no snow, very little or even no wind!   I left Reykjavík very early because I wanted to make a few stops along the way and have time to visit some places before arriving at Kirkjubæjarklaustur where I was staying, a village with about 160 inhabitants located in the south of Iceland.   I rented a summer cottage through my work union and

Aurora Basecamp Observatory Iceland

Did you know that Aurora Basecamp is the only Northern Lights Observatory in Iceland??   I discovered this place just recently and already is my favourite and to-go spot to watch the magic of the northern lights! If seeing the northern lights is on your wish list then you need to go here!    Aurora Basecamp is a beautiful facility designed to give you a good Aurora Borealis experience. It’s amazing that is so close to the city yet feels like you have entered another world ounce you get there! There are three domes on site. Two of them are cozy lounges furnished with tables and bench

Hotel Geysir

I recently stayed in Hotel Geysir, a family-run hotel located in Haukadalur in the Southwestern part of Iceland. The hotel is well located, just across the road from Geysir, after which it is named.     Hotel Geysir is a large modern yet warm hotel with spacious, comfortable, good quality rooms with incredibly comfortable beds that feels just like you are sinking into a cloud. There was a small window sitting area tucked behind the curtains, to sink into and watch the view outside. The hotel has a lovely architecture with a industrial vibe whic

Húsafell - A hidden gem in the west of Iceland

I went to Húsafell last Saturday on a private tour with Húsafell Hotel to the Canyon Baths. Húsafell is located in west of Iceland and where sustainability is a priority! This beautiful pearl in the west of Iceland is family owned and has now been owned for seven generations.   Húsafell is fully sustainable with all energy sources. They have hot and cold water that they run in their own utility system and 4 hydroplants that provide for all the houses in the area. It’s self sufficient area regarding hot and cold water as well as electricity.   Back in the 60’s a farmer named Kristleifur cre

I Explored an Ice Cave!

I Explored a ice cave!   Last friday i took the day off and drove to Vík, a small village in South Iceland located by the famous black sand beach Reynisfjara, where my tour would be.  The drive to Vík from Reykjavík  is around 2 hours 30 minutes in good road conditions.   The tour was booked for 2pm but I left Reykjavík pretty early because the plan was to stop by the famous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls to take some photos. Also the weather wasn’t that good, was raining a lot and the visibility was very poor so in these conditions you want to do things with time and drive caref

The beautiful Seljavallalaug

As my first post here for Guide To Iceland I am writing about Seljavallalaug, the beautiful and oldest pool in Southern Iceland!   As incredible as it might sound for someone that has been living in Iceland for so long it was my first time here!  I was having a bad day… motherhood, relationship, some of you might relate, and decided that relaxing in the oldest pool of Iceland with all those stunning views was all I was needing to feel better.   The drive from Reykjavik to Seljavallalaug is about 1h30m and the views along the way are gorgeous, feels like surreal even with landscapes that a
