Northern lights visible again, but where to go?
Finally they are visible again, this wonder of the sky, I am talking about the northern lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis.
People often ask me where to go to see the lights. My answer is "out of the light pollution", but you dont have to go very far away from the light pollution as these pictures show. The two main things to check before heading out for an aurora hunt are the clouds (they can tend to get in the way of a good shot) and the activity of the lights (aim for a pretty high activity for better visibility).
The northern lights are only visible during the dark of the night and as some of you already know darkness is scarce during the summer. So to view the lights you´ll have to visit in the winter time and therefore you must prepare for colder temperature in Iceland and dress up before you go out into the Icelandic winter night
.
If you are trying to photograph the lights I reccomend putting on an extra layer of clothes and bring along a thermal for coffee or hot choclate, because sometimes you´ll have to wait quite a while for the lights and when they finally appear you are not likely to stop snapping so it´s a lifesaver to have something warm to drink when you are finished.
If you want me to take you on a photography tour or if you have any questions, do not hesitade to contact me.
