My name is Sigrun Guttormsdóttir Þormar. I live inBorgarfjord west Iceland, where I work as a project leader at the cultural medieval center Snorrastofa in Reykholt. For those that don't know, Reykholt was the home of Snorri Sturluson, medieval writer and poet whom lived in Reykholt from 1206 to 1241. He was the author of the Edda, Heimskringla (History of the kings of Norway) and Egils Saga Skallagrimsson. For me Snorri is the most amazing employer whom I proudly serve and constantly present in my every day life! He is absolutely still going strong at 835 years of age. Please come and visit us at www.snorrastofa.is. We are open all weekdays during the winter and all days during summer. We have an exhibition about Snorri Sturluson and offer lectures for groups. Hope to see you soon :)

The fold at Fljótstunga

Every autumn there is a big sheep gathering not far from Reykholt, at Fljótstunga in Hvítársíða.  The farmers go on horseback for days up on the mountains to  heard their sheep. These are busy days, and much fun when they come riding down the valley with the herd in front of them. Dogs barking, men shouting! The local housewife-association selling coffee, hot cocoa, sandwiches and small round donuts - which we in Iceland call "ástarpungar" (love balls), a few have put a little something stronger in their coffee :) The weather this afternoon was amazing, 14 plus when I went from Reykholt at 1

Norwegian choir from Trondheim

Yesterday we in Snorrastofa got a visit from Trondheim Norway.  A lovely choir whom sang for the local schoolchildren in the area.  They, among other songs, sang songs by Thorbjörn Egner.  "Egner is particularly known for his books Karius og Baktus (1949), Thorbjørn Egners lesebøker (1950–1972), Klatremus og de andre dyrene i Hakkebakkeskogen (1953) and Folk og røvere i Kardemommeby (1955, translated 1976). The latter two were made into successful musicals. He also illustrated his own books. Thorbjørn Egner received the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1972 and Cappelen Prize in 1979. He

Auður the deep minded ?

This picture brings thoughts back to the women of the  icelandic Sagas. The  Independent and deep minded women of the North.  One of them was Auður, a queen that settled in the west of Iceland. Auður the deep minded was married to the warrior king  "Olafur Hvíti "  conquering the shire of Dublin.  Olafur was killed in a battle in Ireland. Auður had a son, Thorstein "the red" whom conquered the half of Scotland but was betrayed and killed.  After learning of the death of her son, Audur commissioned a Knarr, a  ship  built for Atlantic voyages, her ship was built secretly in the forest.
