Discover the beauty of the Icelandic countryside on the back of a horse. Ride around meadows and fields and end the morning relaxing in the geothermal waters of Hveragerði’s swimming pool. This family-friendly tour is suited for anybody who wishes to get to know the gentle Icelandic horse.

You’ll be picked up in Reykjavík in the morning and whisked away to the stables just outside of Hveragerði town where you will meet your guide and horse for the day. Your guide will pair you up with a horse that suits your riding capabilities and your personality. The Icelandic horse is both friendly and tame, perfect for beginner riders of all ages, as well as those with more experience.

After a short introduction to the Icelandic horse, you will mount your stallion and make your way to the wild Icelandic nature. You’ll spend about an hour in the saddle, riding through the stunning countryside, with views of snow-capped mountains the entire way.

After the ride, you’ll get to relax in Hveragerði’s geothermal swimming pool. The pool itself is heated all year round using geothermal energy from the ground. This makes a visit to it possible in both the summer and the wintertime alike. In fact, a favourite activity of Icelanders after a day of riding is to soothe aching muscles by sitting in a hot tub and breathing in the cold winter air.

You can soak in the warm waters of the tubs, swim a few laps in the pool, or relax in the steam sauna before towelling off and heading to the local hotel for a light lunch. From there you’ll board a vehicle heading back to Reykjavík, returning to the city shortly after lunchtime which gives you plenty of time to explore the capital and go on other adventures.

Enjoy the countryside, get to know the Icelandic horse and relax in geothermal waters on this fun-filled horse riding tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

Great tour, highly recommended. Our guide, Lena, was so friendly and helpful. We rode for an hour around the area, got to experience the unique gait 'tolt' and got some great photos. After the ride, we were dropped off at the geothermal pool for an hour which was a great experience. Our tour had run a little late so we were given the option to get a packed lunch to make sure we had enough time in the pool - great lunch, thank you! Overall a great tour.
