Description

Get to know the unique wildlife of Iceland in two completely different ways with this combo day tour from Reykjavik, where you'll ride a beautiful Icelandic horse in the morning and take a fascinating whale watching tour in the afternoon. This combo tour appeals to anyone passionate about wildlife, nature, and adventure.

Your day starts when you are picked up from Reykjavik and driven to the nearby farm, Vellir, in Southwest Iceland, for some exciting horse riding.

Here, you will meet your guide and get an introduction to the safety equipment and protocols before being shown your designated Icelandic horse for the morning tour.

Even though Icelandic horses are smaller than most other breeds, you will soon notice that they are quite special. They are comparatively more curious, social, and intelligent.

If horseback riding is new to you, your guides will make sure you get comfortable before the tour starts and adapt the pace to you. If you are more experienced, you will have an opportunity to go faster and gallop during the excursion.

You will ride for up to two hours through the beautiful countryside with views of dramatic mountains and valleys. Once you return to the farm, you will fuel up with a light lunch before heading back to the city.

After a short drive back, you'll arrive at Reykjavik's Old Harbor in time for the early afternoon departure of the whale watching tour.

The boat ride takes you into the beautiful Faxafloi bay, and the expert wildlife guide on board will tell you all about the nature unfolding around you.

Not only will you be able to see the capital's skyline, but if the weather is clear, you will see the Reykjanes peninsula, the beautiful Hvalfjordur fjord, and the silhouette of the magnificent Snaefellsnes peninsula.

Many whale and dolphin species call Faxafloi bay their home, so you can hope to see minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbor porpoises. You may even see orcas, fin, and blue whales if you are particularly lucky.

Between whale sightings, you can admire the seabirds around you or head to the comfortable cabin below to warm up with a hot drink or something stronger. You can also purchase snacks and read about the whales of Iceland below the deck.

If you do not see any whales on your trip, you can redeem another ticket for free at your next available schedule for another shot.

After about three hours, hopefully, filled with multiple sightings, you will be taken back to the Old Harbor in time for any late afternoon and evening plans.

Take advantage of this opportunity to see the most impressive animals in Iceland, from majestic horses to the gentle giants of the sea. Check availability now by choosing a date.
