Description

The Power Challenge Circle Tour is an exciting 2-hour guided tour geared at those at an intermediate skill level, ages 14 and up. Experience the thrill of paddling out to sea, yet staying safely within the boundaries of the quiet lagoons in this very scenic and bio-diverse habitat.

Far offshore, you can hear the Atlantic breakers pounding the ridge of submerged lava, part of a 25 km long lava “barrier reef” from The Great Þjórsá flow─the largest existing lava flow ever recorded in Iceland as a result of a single eruption.

The day starts off at our headquarters in the village of Stokkseyri, a mere 40-minute drive from Reykjavík. Here you will meet your guide, and after suiting up in warm overalls, gloves and life vest, you will be briefed on the day’s activities. We only use comfortable sit-on-top kayaks that are known for their ease of handling and are ideally suited for everyone, from beginners to skilled kayakers.

With your guide leading the way, you will paddle across the calm waters of Lake Löngudæl, through narrow, winding canals, down the gently flowing Hraunsá River and on out to sea.

Now we have entered a very different habitat where seals can often be seen lazing about on seaweed laden skerries, while swans, eider ducks and a whole panoply of seabirds and waders feed nearby. The more curious seals have been known sometimes to follow our kayaks as we make our way across the lagoon!

We will have time to explore the area, take photos, and, if conditions are optimal, we will take a closer look at the kelp and dulse, types of wild seaweeds that grow in the area.

In the final leg of our journey we will paddle over to Stokkseyri harbour, 3 to 4 km away, (depending on the tides) where we will disembark and then take the 2-minute walk back to headquarters. At the end of the tour, we'll head to the Stokkseyri swimming pool to relax in the hot tubs, and enjoy hot drinks to warm up after the trip.
