Description

Explore North Iceland's Myvatn lake and its surroundings by joining this nine-hour sightseeing and nature bath tour of the region and its waters. Those who want a Northern Iceland itinerary that allows travelers to explore Myvatn lake and famous North Iceland waterfalls should not miss this.

Your tour starts at a chosen pick-up location in Akureyri or the KEA hotel. If you decide to go to the KEA hotel, be there early as your tour leaves in the morning. You will meet your professional guide at your pick-up point, who will be with you throughout your North Iceland tour.

You will drive along Eyjafjordur fjord's coast, one of the longest fjords in the country at around 37 miles (60 kilometers). While traveling, you may also stop by some excellent locations where you can marvel at the sight or ask your guide for more information.

Your first stop during this trip will be at one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country, Godafoss. The spectacular waterfall, also known as the "waterfall of the Gods," is around 39 feet (12 meters) high. The waterfall had a considerable role in the past when Iceland transitioned from embracing old pagan gods to Christianity.

After marveling at the Godafoss waterfall, you will journey to the beautiful Lake Myvatn, a top spot in the Diamond Circle route. The lake sits in an active geothermal area resulting from a substantial basaltic lava eruption more than 2000 years ago.

Lake Myvatn is also home to many exciting attractions, such as the Skutustadagigar pseudo-craters, the lava formations Dimmuborgir, and the Grjotagja rift.

Animal lovers will discover that Skustadagigar is the perfect place to view different duck species in its waters. Meanwhile, Game of Thornes fans may find Dimmuborgir and Grjotagja cave fascinating, as both were featured in the series. Grjotagja is also home to an old natural bathing spot, thanks to the hot water from its rift.

You will also stop by two other waterfalls during the tour, Dettifoss and Selfoss. The majestic Dettifoss is hailed as one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. Dettifoss waterfall is 150 feet (45 meters) high, and its waters fall at around 6,186 cubic feet (193 cubic meters) per second.

Selfoss, a smaller waterfall than Dettifoss, is just nearby. The waterfall is only 36 feet (11 meters) in height but has a width of 330 feet (100 meters) and is a beautiful sight.

Before returning to Akureyri, your group will stop by the Myvatn Nature Baths, which you can add admission to when booking. Before traveling to the tour's last stop, you can relax and enjoy Myvatn's geothermal pools.

The tour's last stop will be at Eyjafjordur, where you can enjoy a fantastic view of Akureyri and take amazing photos of it.

Don't miss the opportunity to explore Myvatn lake and its surrounding waterfalls and enjoy a nature bath on the way. Check availability now by choosing a date.
