Description

Experience a thrilling back-to-back adventure on the South Coast of Iceland on this six-hour combo tour with ATV and glacier walking. Those who want to explore the rugged terrain of the Nordic country, from black sand plains to snow-covered glaciers, will enjoy this small-group tour.

Your combo tour in Iceland begins as you arrive at the tour operator’s base in Myrdalsjokull, six miles (nine kilometers) east of Skogar, the nearest village. This excursion doesn’t include a pick-up and drop-off service, so you must book transportation separately if you’re coming from Reykjavik, 99 miles (160 kilometers) away.

Before driving to the meeting point, make sure to pack everything you need for the trip. Waterproof clothing, rain gear, and sturdy hiking boots are essential to make your trip as comfortable and convenient as possible.

At the tour operator’s base, you’ll meet your English-speaking guide. You’ll have a quick meeting here about the itinerary and have a safety briefing as you gear up for the first leg of your adventure.

An hour of quad-biking awaits you on the vast plains of Solheimasandur, a glacial outwash of black sands and gravel that extends to the coastline. Solheimasandur is the perfect location for an ATV ride because of its rugged terrain and scenic views.

While driving on this South Coast area, you’ll cross rocky plains crisscrossed by shallow rivers. The beautiful coastline, snow-capped mountains, and a mighty glacier are also breathtaking views you’ll appreciate during this activity.

The most notable attraction on Solheimasandur is the historic DC-3 plane wreck. You’ll make a quick stop for a photo opportunity here while learning about the story of the wreckage from your guide.

After a thrilling ATV ride, the group will proceed to the glacier base, where you’ll begin your next activity of glacier hiking. The transfer will only take about 10 minutes because the area is nearby.

Before jumping on the frozen wonderland of the Solheimajokull glacier, you’ll gear up with safety equipment like crampons and an ice axe. These are all included in your tour package. You’ll also get a safety briefing and hiking demonstration, regardless of your hiking skills and experiences.

As you step on the ice, you’ll witness the otherworldly features of the glacier. The recurring formations you’ll explore here are different colors of ice walls, crevasses, and ridges. While on top, you can also get a panoramic view of the South Coast.

To complete your glacier hiking experience in Iceland, don’t miss out on tasting the famous Icelandic glacier water. The glacier water running through Solheimajokull is safe to drink, but you should still inform your guide before doing so.

After nearly three hours of walking on ice, you’ll return to the tour operator’s base to enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. Your tour ends as you return to Reykjavik or explore other attractions nearby.

See the hidden wonders of the Solheimajokull glacier and Solheimasandur plains on this small-group ATV and glacier hiking combo tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
