Join this fun and family-friendly ATV/Quad biking tour down to the DC3 Plane Wreck on Sólheimasandur on Iceland’s South Coast.
Your adventure begins at the main base resting at the roots of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. You will be welcomed by your experienced and qualified ATV guide, who will get you geared up with all the necessary equipment for an exciting day. You will receive an insulated coverall, helmet and balaclava face mask. When you are fully equipped, the guide will give you a short safety briefing. Now that you are all set, you can step onto the ATV and take off.
The action begins right away as your guide leads you across a few rivers along the way to the black sand beach of Sólheimasandur. You will travel on the beach past sand dunes, all the way down to the shore where you will see the waves crash on the sand.
At the beach, you will be greeted by the spectacular view of the surrounding area. From the East, you will see the Dyrhólaey peninsula, the southernmost part of Iceland. In the north, you will see Mýrdalsjökull glacier, the fourth largest glacier in Iceland, which rises above with the active volcano Katla sleeping underneath. You will make a stop at the beach to fully take in the beautiful surroundings. You will then continue your journey.
The next destination is the famous United States Navy DC3 Plane Wreck. In 1973, the plane ran out of gas and crashed on the beach. Thankfully everyone survived. The silver plane lying in the black sand is a magical sight and an epic photo opportunity. Make sure to bring your camera!
You will then head back to the base, filled with new memories and a smile on your face!
