Description
Enjoy a bike ride through the Westfjords on this day tour. It suits travelers who want to stay active while seeing some of the best-known sights in the region.
You start the day in Patreksfjordur Town and are driven to Latrabjarg Cliffs, a stretch of bird cliffs 9 miles (14 kilometers) long and up to 1,444 feet (440 meters) high.
On arrival, you switch to a bike, and after a short briefing, you set out to explore the cliffs. Millions of birds nest in the rocks or circle overhead, and the Atlantic puffin is the species most visitors come to see.
Keep a good distance from the cliff edge, for your safety and that of the birds.
After your ride along the cliffs, you cycle to the Hnjotur Heritage Museum.
Here, you learn about the history of the Westfjords. Of particular interest is the story of a shipwreck at Latrabjarg Cliffs, where local farmers descended on ropes to rescue the stranded sailors.
Next, you cycle to your final destination of the day, Raudasandur Beach. Its red sand stretches for miles between black cliffs and the blue sea.
After exploring the area, you are driven back to Patreksfjordur Town.
This tour combines birdwatching, sightseeing, culture, and exercise.
