Drive a buggy on gravel roads and back-country trails to Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and the Geysir Geothermal Area on this full-day Golden Circle tour from Reykjavik.
At the base, you meet your guide, put on your gear, and get a short safety briefing.
The 4-seater 4x4 buggies are fully automatic and road legal, with roll cages, seatbelts, and good suspension. You can drive if you have a valid driver's license, or ride as a passenger.
From the base, you head onto gravel tracks and back-country roads past Hafravatn Lake, Skammidalur Valley, and Mosfellsdalur Valley, and the landscape gradually becomes more rugged.
Your first stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Iceland's parliament, the Althingi, was founded here in 930, and it's also where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart.
After Thingvellir, the farmland fades behind you, and the ride continues into rougher terrain on sandy trails with wide-open views.
Next, you visit Gullfoss Waterfall, which is fed by the Hvita River from Langjokull Glacier and crashes into a deep canyon.
The last main stop is the Geysir Geothermal Area. The Great Geysir only erupts occasionally, but nearby Strokkur Geyser erupts every 4 to 16 minutes, sending hot water high into the air, with steam and bubbling hot springs all around.
Throughout the day, the route follows gravel roads, riverside tracks, and remote sections with mountain views that most Golden Circle tours don't reach.
