Description

Get a taste of Iceland’s great adventure opportunities while witnessing beautiful nature on this hour-long buggy tour from Reykjavík. This excursion is perfect for those who want to get their adrenaline pumping, but don’t necessarily want to sacrifice a full day to do so.

This tour could not be easier to join; the base camp for the buggies is located just on the outskirts of Iceland’s capital; you can elect to drive or bus there yourself, or else opt for a pickup and drop off.

Once you arrive, you’ll meet your friendly guides, who’ll provide protective overalls, gloves, and a helmet to make your trip as comfortable and safe as possible. You’ll then board your buggies, with qualified drivers taking the wheel and non-drivers (including children six and up) making themselves comfortable in the passenger seat.

You’ll then set off on a beautiful bumpy trail, which will take you out into the stunning nature just outside Reykjavík. You’ll start by travelling around the serene Lake Hafravatn, which in summer is alive with birds, and in winter is clad in ice.

Next to this lake is a mountain called Hafrafell, which you will start to ascend. Expect an exhilarating, if a little daunting, trip up its slopes, as you navigate twisting trails through the mossy (or snow-covered) lava rock.

Once you reach the summit, you will hop off the buggy to admire the spectacular views. In decent weather, you’ll be able to see the city of Reykjavík sprawling beneath you, notable for its patchwork quilt of colourful tin roof houses and spectacular landmarks. You should, for example, be able to see the great church of Hallgrímskirkja and the concert hall of Harpa.

If the weather is especially good, you’ll be able to see Mount Esjan across Faxafloi bay, and even the Reykjanes and Snaefellsnes Peninsulas to the north and south respectively.

You’ll have plenty of time to take some beautiful photos before taking the exciting paths back down the mountain to the base camp. After that, you’ll have the rest of the day to pack in more tours, or else relax in the city.

Enjoy a thrilling buggy adventure into Iceland’s nature without sacrificing a full day. Check availability now by choosing a date.
