Join this stunning canyon hike in the remote east part of Iceland!
On this tour we follow the riverbed throughout the Hafrahvammar canyon discovering this amazing place from a completely new angle. The possibility to hike this canyon has only been available since 2008, when the nearby dam of Kárahnjúkar opened.
On our way through the canyon we will see amazing rock formations, caves and beautiful waterfalls. We will even get to bathe in a natural, warm waterfall during our tour - so remember to bring your swimsuit!
During a one month period each year the excess water in Hálslón reservoir overflows the Karahnjúkar dam making the canyon inaccessible, this normally takes place around September time, but varies from year to year.
Note: This tour operator is located in Egilsstaðir in the east of Iceland. The drive from Egilsstaðir is about 1,5 hours, the hike is about 5 hours and people get 1-1,5 hours to relax in the warm waterfall in Laugavalladalur.

Hafrahvammar canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Iceland. The hike is about 5 hours, the drive to and from Egilsstaðir is about 1,5 hours. There is a 1 hour to 1,5 hour stop to bathe in Laugavalladalur.
