The Ultimate Crystal Ice Cave Tour

This ultimate crystal ice cave adventure tour departs from Jokulsarlón Glacier Lagoon, located 45 minutes east of Skaftafell National Park. Natural ice caves begin to form and take shape during autumn each year and therefore they come in all forms and sizes and their shape can change between years. These wonderful natural phenomena are only accessible during the winter months so this tour is a winter tour only.

Ice Caves can typically be found in various locations on Vatnajokull Glacier, Europe‘s largest glacier. This ice cave adventure is approximately three hours in duration and departs from the parking lot of the Jökuslárlón Glacier Lagoon. Upon arrival you will meet your certified glacier guide which will take you on a guided visit to a magnificent ice cave where you will spend between 30-40 minutes, so make sure to bring your camera with you.

You will meet with your guides at the Jökulsárlón and board their modified mountain jeeps to embark on your journey up the glacier to the caves. Please note that transfer to the Glacier Lagoon from Reykjavik is not included. You'll need to be there 30 minutes before the tour starts for gearing up and going over the safety regulations. We recommend that you dress in warm and waterproof clothing. You should also wear good, waterproof hiking shoes.

It is important to note that this tour is dependent on weather conditions such as rain and the outside temperature each time. This tour is truly a once in a lifetime experience which should be on everyone's bucket list!

You can choose between various departure times to best suit your travel schedule, and the tour is suitable for anyone 10 years and older who is reasonably fit and able to walk on uneven surfaces without assistance. Glacier gear and safety instructions will be provided by our expert team of glacier guides before entering the cave. It is very important to dress according to weather in warm and waterproof clothing and hiking shoes, warm head-wear and gloves are essential.
