Jump aboard this incredible Super Jeep adventure to the Highland region of Landmannalaugar. If you are looking to immerse yourself in untouched Icelandic nature, seek places that most do not visit, and want to combine sightseeing, hot-spring bathing and hiking without the crowds, then this is the tour for you.

You will be picked up from your Reykjavík accommodation in the morning. The Super Jeep you’ll be travelling has many advantages over a standard bus. It is more spacious for your comfort; it seats fewer passengers, so the tour is more personalised; and it can take you across rivers and down bumpy tracks that other vehicles cannot traverse.

En route to Landmannalaugar, you will make several stops. The first is at the dramatic Þjórsárdalur Valley, where you will admire the mighty Hjálparfoss waterfalls cascading beside each other into a serene pool. Travellers used to water and feed their horses here after a long journey; thus the area, called Hjálp, means ‘Help’.

Following Hjálparfoss, you will head to the crater Ljótipollur, formed by an eruption in 1477. It is now filled with a cobalt blue lake, making it a favourite location amongst photographers. Next, you will see another lake, Frostastaðavatn, which is wide, beautiful, and coloured a stunning turquoise.

Finally, you will reach Landmannalaugar. This is without a doubt one of Iceland’s most beautiful regions. You will be surrounded by yellow rhyolite mountains; glaciers and volcanoes; trickling rivers, and steaming geothermal areas.

After a quick lunch, you will have the freedom to decide how you want to enjoy the area; you can take a guided hike for an hour to see some of the notable features nearby, or just change into your swimsuit and jump straight into the serene, warm waters of a natural hot spring.

If you opt for the hike, you will have a chance to bathe afterwards, and visa-versa if you would rather explore the area by yourself.

After you have enjoyed what Landmannalaugar has to offer, you will return to the Super Jeep and head back to Reykjavík. The adventure is not over yet, however; you will take the Dómadalur route, which takes you to the waterfall Þjófafoss. This name translates to ‘waterfall of thieves’ due to its dark history; Vikings would bind together the hands and feet of bandits here, and toss them from the top of the falls.

You will also make a brief stop near Hekla. This is one of Iceland’s most notorious volcanoes, having erupted regularly throughout the country’s history; it last went off in 2000. Historically, it was called the ‘Gates of Hell’.

After enjoying these locations, you will return to Reykjavík. You will no doubt still be in awe of the many sites you have fit into this day; your memories of this trip will last for life.

So jump aboard the Super Jeep, for several incredible Icelandic experiences rolled into one. Check availability by choosing a date.

This tour was really nice and we enjoyed it a lot. It partly followed less tourist-crowed paths and the super-jeep always got the attention of others :-) The guide was very friendly and made sure, that the available time is well distributed among the different sights. Only the stop at Hekla was a bit disappointing, since - despite how it sounds in the tour description - it is "just" a stop in the lava fields (which is definitely nice), with Hekla visible in quite some distance (and most likely covered partially in clouds).

One thing which is not good, duration is written to be 12 hours but only 10 hours in the end!! Otherwise the place is so beautiful that everyone in our tour gave up to go into the spring. We spent all our given time to hike in the lava field! The weather was a pity. Otherwise we could have stayed there :). I am appreciating the nice weather on the other days (we are in Iceland) and this could give me a reason to visit Iceland the third time. The big, cool, comfort super jeep is another highlight for this tour!

This tour may not be that typical sightseeing kind, but if you are a fan of outdoor activities, you gonna love it! Amazing highland views.

I love this tour so much
