Join this otherworldly tour of glacier hiking on top of Svínafellsjökull in the Skaftafell nature reserve, ideal for anyone looking to escape to the wide open spaces of authentic Icelandic nature.

The beautiful area of Skaftafell has been under preservation since 1967. Belonging to the larger Vatnajökull National Park since its establishment in 2008, the Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue is what is known as an outlet glacier, creeping inland from the vast Vatnajökull glacier itself.

Departing from Skaftafell a designated vehicle will take you up to your destination. An expert glacier guide will then teach you the ropes of ice hiking, provide you with the proper equipment and safely guide you through the crevasses and glacial sculptures of Svínafellsjökull.

You will also be following in the footsteps of the cast and crew of various big film and television productions. Be it John Snow of HBO’s 'Game of Thrones', Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s 'Batman' or the daring explorers of the science fiction epic 'Interstellar'; you too shall witness this beautiful scenery and grasp just why it is such a popular shooting location.

Get ready to be surrounded by the most majestic of landscapes and participate in the challenging activity of hiking on ice. You will have to bring your own hiking boots to wear, while your guide will provide you with ice crampons for attachment and support.

A living glacier is a powerful phenomenon and the surest way of experiencing that power is by walking on top of its ice. Remember to dress accordingly, for even though the area is known for its sunny summers, it is always quite cold on the glacier itself.

Don’t hesitate to join this incredible excursion for your own chance to witness all of the above and so much more. Check availability by choosing a date.

Reading reviews I would not phrase it better than the one I copy past below. Additionally, I would had that it's possible to rent or buy crampons and do a small tour of the glacier yourself, depending on your physical condition and on the weather it might be an option to consider. Quote: It was a great experience but, we expected more of it. We only hiked on the very beginning of the glacier. Most part of the glacier was black looking due to all the dirt. So you basically feel like you are walking on stone/rocks instead of ice. If you have a high expectation about this tour please take the above in consideration, as we were hoping to hike on white ice and further up the glacier. The pictures are giving you an incorrect view in my opinion. Besides the above we are happy to have experienced it.

Our guide, Albin, was fantastic! He was very nice and informative and also went an appropriate speed for the group. I would definitely recommend the tour and Albin for any friends visiting Iceland.

We loved the tour! We were running late and bus was ready to leave when we showed up. Everyone was great helping us get ready and onto the bus. We loved the hike and the knowledge our tour guide passed on to us. One of the highlights of our trip.

Great and safe tour unto one of the most amazing spots in Iceland. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Next time, I'd bring a small bottle to collect some of that volcanic ash that is really good for your face.

Guide sympa, parlant anglais clairement, paysages magnifiques et balade facile

The tour was amazing. Evethough it was cancelled the first day, we got the chance to do it the next day. Walking on the glacier is among the experiences you get to live once in a lifetime. We utterly enjoyed it. Our compliments to Sara , our tour guide. Best tour guide ever.

This tour was so amazing. Our guide was so nice and very knowledgeable about Iceland and the glaciers. She really had a great attitude throughout the hike. Hiking the glacier was such a great experience. It was not strenuous, very enjoyable, exciting, and fun. I would recommend this to anyone.

It was so much fun! Hiking on glacier is a must-do once in a lifetime!! The coach was helpful and even taught us how to do crazy photos. It was not so dangerous and risky. Just be careful and follow coach's instructions. Really recommend this tour to everyone coming to iceland.

It was fantastic! I really want to recommend this program to all the people who visits Iceland! I really want to try another Glacier hinking program which is longer than i experienced sometime. :))

Fantastic view and friendly & knowledgable guide, Hawk! Must do activity in Iceland.

This tour is definitely a must-go! Lisa was very helpful and knowledgeable. She told us how the glacier was formed and took us to some very good photo spots. Besides, who wouldn't want to see where Interstellar was shot.

It was a fun tour. They focus on safety and are patient with questions. Would recommend!

Informative and exciting!!!

awesome view and the staff arevery friendly and nice!

Really amazing tour of the glacier, outstanding opportunity to see something unique / special. David was our guide, and he was incredibly helpful: knowledgeable, looked after our group's safety, took us to a number of wonderful spots. Tour operation was smooth / good logistics for getting all of us to the glacier. One of the highlights of our trip to Iceland (in a country with no end of amazing sights & experiences). Highly recommend it!!

I really enjoyed this tour! It was my first time on a glacier, so it was great to get a basic intro. We got all the equipment and walked on the glacier for a while, then headed back. We were a rather small group, with 2 guides - both fun and professional at the same time :) The walk was easy, anybody could do it. Even people with vertigo (no climbing involved). Next time I'll definitely plan a longer visit!

It was amazing! very informative tour, stunning landscape and a great guide with great sense of humor :D What more could you ask? I highly recommend it!

that's really amazing tour i ever had. it will make you exhausted but worthy. Enjoy once you join!!!

Very very good! Love it!

The glacier trek was awesome! A nice short walk, I would definitely want to try the longer treks in the future. One of our guides seemed distracted and was on the phone most of the trip, but the other one was good at answering any questions. It would have been nice if the tour was a bit more informative about the glacier but maybe there just isn't that much to know?

super nice couple as guide. hope the tour can go deeper into the glacier

It's an amazing experience!! An unforgettable memories here for us! Hope we can come here again in the summer:)

It's a very cool experience to walk on the glacier in winter time. The tour guider also very nice and professional. Thanks a lot.
