Your tour begins at the Snowmobile Base Camp on the eastern side of Langjökull. You will quickly meet your specialist snowmobiling guide, then proceed to be kitted out with all of the necessary clothing and gear for snowmobiling.

After a quick lesson in snowmobile driving and a safety briefing, it's time to hit that throttle, power up and shoot off into the sparkling white yonder! The scenery here is simply stunning; you will experience a fabulous feeling of spaciousness, as well as that magical sense of being on an untouched plateau beneath the vast sky.

Langjökull is the second largest glacier in Iceland with a surface area of 953 square kilometres. At its highest, the glacier rises to 1450 metres, which is around 100 metres higher than the mountain peaks surrounding it. Well-known mountains in the area include Fjallkirkja, Þursaborg, Péturshorn and Jarlhattur.

As this tour starts on location, you'll have to drive to the Base Camp yourself. You are kindly asked to meet your guide and be ready for departure and kitting up at least 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time. In reasonable conditions, it should take you about two and a half hours to drive from Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. From Gullfoss waterfall, the journey takes approx. 40 minutes.

To reach the base camp, you will need to take the F 35 mountain road, also known as the Kjölur route. Once arrived, you will find a cosy, spacious and recently renovated country cottage with wonderful views, as well as hot chocolate, coffee, biscuits and restrooms all available.
