Take the boat from Hesteyri in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve back to Isafjordur, the largest town in the Westfjords, on this one-way transfer.
Your trip starts at Hesteyri, a former fishing village that has been abandoned since 1952. It comes to life in summer, as the former residents and their families still own the houses and land. There's a guesthouse, and you can hike in the area. Be at the landing a few minutes before the boat leaves.
The Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is one of the most untouched areas in Iceland, with Arctic foxes and large seabird colonies on its cliffs, and no permanent settlements.
On the way back to Isafjordur, you sail across Isafjardardjup Fjord, surrounded by mountains, and you may see whales and seabirds.
In Isafjordur, you can find restaurants, cafes, and accommodation to end your day.
