Description

Join an evening stroll on Viðey Island, just off Reykjavík. Walk among some of the oldest stone buildings in Iceland, view the spectacular art and learn about the intriguing story of this important historical place.

The tour is dedicated to Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower and her continuing campaign for world peace. The beam is lit each year from 9 October until 8 December - the day of John Lennon’s birth and the day of his death. The tour unites history, art and nature in an interesting way while the ever-changing weather conditions impact the strength, visibility, intensity and brilliance of the tower’s light.

The tour begins when you stop by the ticket office on your voucher, from which you will be shown to the visitor centre just down the street. You'll have the opportunity to watch a screening of a video on the Imagine Peace Tower narrated by Yoko Ono before embarking on the ferry. Your guide will explain the history of the island and give you insight into some of the noticeable landmarks on the way out, as well as answering any questions you may have.

Once on the island, you will walk up to Viðeyjarstofa café, before hiking towards the light just behind Sjónarhóll hill. The walk is relatively easy but will involve some walking on uneven and sometimes unpaved roads.

When you get to the base of the Peace Tower, you can walk all the way around it, take beautiful photographs, look at the magnificent views of Reykjavík from afar and even learn how to read and say 'Imagine Peace' in 24 languages. By the time the tour is over you will be an expert in the importance of unity and world peace.

Be a part of the global peace movement by joining this tour. Check availability by selecting a date on the calendar.
