Drive a buggy into Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Icelandic Highlands on this tour from Hrauneyjar Highland Center, with views of Hekla Volcano, geothermal valleys, and the Hrafntinnusker area.
At Hrauneyjar Highland Center, you meet your guide, put on your gear, and get a short safety briefing.
The 4-seater 4x4 buggies are fully automatic and road legal, with roll cages, seatbelts, and good suspension. You can drive if you have a valid driver's license, or ride as a passenger.
From the parking area, you head east on old mountain roads and volcanic tracks toward Fjallabak, driving on sandy and muddy trails. As you go deeper into the highlands, Hekla Volcano, one of Iceland's best-known and most active volcanoes, rises to the south, with lava fields all around.
The trail continues through Reykjadalir Valley, where steam rises from the ground among black rock, brown soil, and green moss.
Next, you reach Hrafntinnusker, a remote rhyolite mountain area known for its hot springs, on the edge of the wider Landmannalaugar region and along the Laugavegur Trail. In some seasons, glacier caves form here, depending on snow and weather.
From Hrafntinnusker, the route drops toward the Dalamot area and passes lava fields before reaching Rudolf Waterfall, a hidden highland waterfall. Then you ride back on remote highland roads and sandy tracks to Hrauneyjar.
