Dive into one of Iceland’s most unique underwater sites on this guided Bjarnagja diving tour on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Explore a deep lava ravine shaped by tectonic forces and discover a rare mix of freshwater clarity and marine life with a divemaster.
This tour in Iceland is perfect for certified dry suit divers seeking an adventure that combines geology, history, and natural beauty. It offers a safe and exciting way to explore the Reykjanes Peninsula’s lava formations.
With a professional guide and high-quality equipment, everything is arranged for your convenience. You can simply focus on enjoying the dive and taking in the dramatic surroundings without worrying about logistics.
Your 5-hour adventure begins either with a convenient pick-up in Reykjavik or by meeting your guide directly at the fissure near Grindavik. During the scenic one-hour drive from the capital, your guide shares insights into Iceland’s geology and culture, while those meeting at the site receive the same fascinating context before the tour begins.
At the site, your guide provides a detailed safety briefing and helps you prepare your gear. You’ll use premium BARE and Aqualung gear, including APEX or Aqualung regulators. This ensures you feel confident and secure during your dive.
The dive lasts 30 to 40 minutes, reaching depths of up to 59 feet (18 meters). During this time, you’ll navigate lava walls and experience the mix of freshwater and seawater that creates unique visibility and marine life.
Underwater, you’ll glide through a lava ravine where volcanic walls rise on either side. The clear groundwater reveals the striking textures and colors of the rock formations, creating the perfect setting for lava and wreck exploration.
At the bottom of the fissure, you can explore a sunken boat. This unusual feature adds mystery to the site and makes the dive truly unforgettable.
After diving, you’ll warm up with hot chocolate and cookies while reflecting on the dive. The standard drop-off after the tour is in Reykjavik. However, since the Blue Lagoon is nearby, you can choose to be dropped off there instead. If you do, you’ll need to arrange your own transfer back after enjoying a relaxing geothermal soak.
Please note that participants must present a valid SCUBA dive certification card (PADI Open Water or equivalent). They must also provide proof of dry suit diving certification or evidence of at least 10 logged dry suit dives within the last two years.
Divers aged 60 or older are required to provide a physician’s approval. This ensures all participants can safely enjoy the dive experience.
