1 Hour Horse Riding Tour over the Mountains & Meadows of South Iceland Departing from Skeidvellir

Experience the mountains and meadows of Iceland with this fantastic horse riding tour, perfect for the inexperienced rider. Those looking to experience the beauty of Iceland’s countryside, as well as meet its most famous four-legged residents, could find no better option than this tour! 

This activity begins at the farm Skeiðvellir in South Iceland. Upon your arrival, you will meet your guide for the day, get fitted for equipment and get a small instruction in how to ride the Icelandic horse. Afterwards being matched up with your horse for the tour, you get the chance to practice a bit in the riding hall, getting to know your Icelandic horse. 

Icelandic horses are beloved for their small, yet muscular stature and their ability to withstand the cold. These attributes have been built up over generations of isolation; horses first arrived to Iceland around 1000 AD, making them one of the purest breeds on earth. This pedigree is so important that horses that leave Iceland are forbidden to ever return. 

Once the group is ready, you will embark on a one hour ride out in the nature, into the fields of Skeiðvellir. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, and feeling the gentle rhythm of your horse, you will witness such wonders of nature as distant glaciers and mountainscapes. 

Icelandic horses are known for their five unique gaits, the most famous of which is the tölt. It's a smooth and comfortable gait for the rider, that gives you a very special feeling. All riders will be offered to try to experience the tölt during the tour. 

A short stop will be made during the tour for the group to pose for photographs. These photographs will be sent to you by email at a later date. At the end of your tour, you will return to the farm’s cosy cafeteria where you can enjoy a hot drink and discuss the day’s highlights.
