Inflatable Kayaking Tour on the Hvita River With Pickup from Reykjavik

Paddle your own inflatable kayak down the whitewater of the Hvita River, a glacier river near Gullfoss Waterfall on the Golden Circle route, on this 3-hour tour for adults.

The tour starts at Drumbo River Base at Drumboddsstadir, about 1.5 hours from Reykjavik and a short drive from Gullfoss Waterfall. At the base, your guides give you a safety briefing and your gear.

You steer the kayak yourself, alone or with a friend or partner, as each inflatable kayak seats one or two people. Experienced kayakers can ask for a single kayak. The guides follow alongside in a safety kayak to help you and give instructions.

The Hvita River flows from Langjokull Glacier, the second-largest glacier in Iceland, and its name means "White River," after its white water. You start a few kilometers downstream from Gullfoss Waterfall and travel about 4.5 miles (7 kilometers) down the river.

The first few kilometers have most of the whitewater rapids, and the last part passes through calm canyons. You drift through Bruarhlod Canyon, which was created by a volcanic eruption and later carved out by the river.

It's a challenging ride, and you're likely to flip your kayak and end up in the cold glacial water at some point. The kayaks don't fill with water, your life jacket keeps you afloat, and your guides are there to help.

Back at the base, you can warm up in the outdoor hot tubs and the sauna with an infinity window, and use the showers and changing rooms. The River Restaurant and Bar serves food and drinks, at your own expense.
