Description

Hike to incredible peaks in West Iceland on this hiking tour of Mount Snaefell.

Mount Snaefell is the country's highest freestanding mountain and is sometimes referred to as the 'King of Icelandic Mountains'. At 1,833 metres (6,013 ft), it is almost as tall as the mighty Vatnajokull glacier. Hiking to the summit is not an overly technical pursuit, and those with good fitness should be able to achieve it comfortably.

The first trip to the summit was made in 1794. On a clear day, more than half of Iceland can be seen from the summit. Snæfell has two main routes, the "normal" course, and the north-east ridge. The path along the north-east ridge is very popular for hikers looking to experience the best of summer on a midnight sun tour.

This day tour will begin in Egilsstadir when you are picked up at your accommodation (in Egilsstadir or Laugarfell). Your guide will explain to you what to expect from the tour and talk you through some exciting things to look out for. Your guide is a professional mountaineer who will ensure your safety is the priority at all times.

The hike itself will begin close to Snaefellskali hut. At first, the route is mostly paved. As you climb closer to the summit, you can expect to hike on snow and glacier. This mix of terrains makes for an exciting and thrilling hike.

Take in the breathtaking views at the top before commencing your descent.

At the end of the hike, you can take a dip in the natural hot springs at Laugarfell. This is a great way to relax and let your muscles recover from the hike, and also to share stories with your fellow hikers.

Afterwards, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Egilsstadir or Laugarfell.

Don't miss out on your chance to climb this incredible peak.
