Your tour begins at the Lava Center in Hvolsvollur, where you meet your local guide. You then board a super jeep designed for Iceland's rough terrain and glacial rivers.
From Hvolsvollur, you follow the F-roads into the southern Highlands. Along the way, you see Eyjafjallajokull Glacier and Myrdalsjokull Glacier, and your super jeep crosses rivers such as the Krossa River on the way into the valley.
Your first stop is Merkurker Canyon, a hidden canyon known for its rock formations.
Next, your guide takes you to Gigjokull Glacier, an outlet glacier of Eyjafjallajokull. Here, you see how glacial floods from the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull Volcano reshaped the valley.
At Stakkholtsgja Canyon, you walk between towering cliffs.
In the heart of Thorsmork, you stop at Basar, a campsite and hiking base surrounded by mountain peaks and birch forests, where you can eat the light lunch you brought.
Your guide then leads a Thorsmork hike chosen for the group's ability and the weather. It can be an easy walk through birch forest or a more challenging hike to panoramic views.
You also visit Alfakirkja Rock, a rock formation from Icelandic folklore that is said to be the church of the elves.
At the end of the day, you head back through the Highlands to the Lava Center in Hvolsvollur.
