Your guide is a professional photographer who will take gorgeous photos of you. After the tour, your guide will send you 30 professionally edited photos within two weeks.
When you're ready to depart, you'll board a super jeep and set off for the Thorsmork valley in South Iceland. A super jeep is a modified four-wheel drive vehicle adapted to navigate Iceland's rugged terrain. They can go where other vehicles can't, crossing rivers and driving along unpaved roads.
The Thorsmork valley is between the Tindfjallajokull and Eyjafjallajokull glaciers. Its name translates to "Thor's Forest". This remote wilderness has a diverse landscape of birchwood forests, glacial rivers, and towering volcanic peaks.
The first stop on the tour is the Gigjokull glacier. Situated on the southern slopes of Eyjafjallajokull volcano, the Gigjokull glacier was dramatically affected by the volcano's famous 2010 eruption, with the intense heat causing ice to melt and leading to a glacial outburst flood.
Next, it's on to the Stakkholtsgja canyon. You'll hike around 1.25 miles (roughly 2 kilometers) into the narrow canyon, navigating its rocky pathways and often wading through the meandering stream.
Along the way, you'll see lush vegetation, hanging gardens, and impressive rock formations, eventually coming to a cave with a waterfall inside.
After you've worked up an appetite on the canyon hike, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch at the Langidalur mountain hut, gazing out at a view over the mountains and rivers of the valley. The picnic lunch includes a selection of sandwiches, Icelandic yogurt, fresh fruit, salads, and drinks.
After lunch, it's time for another hike. You'll walk for about two hours, ascending the Valahnukur mountain, where you'll find one of the best views in the country. From the top, you'll see glaciers, mountains, and valleys. Your photographer will be on hand to snap photos of you in this magnificent place.
At the end of the tour, your guide will drive you back to your accommodation in Reykjavik. From here, you can continue your adventures in Iceland or head home.
