Krónan Supermarkets
Krónan is one of the largest supermarket chains in Iceland, offering a wide range of products at competitive prices with frequent discounts. The stores can be found all over the country.
Originally established in 2000, Krónan has become a staple part of daily life for many Icelandic households. Today, there are 26 Krónan grocery stores located all across Iceland, including Reykjavik, Akureyri, Selfoss and more.
Krónan offers a wide selection of grocery items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and seafood, dairy products, bakery items, household products, and more. These include Icelandic products but also a range of international brands to cater to different preferences.
The stores offer a number of innovative services to make each shopping trip as convenient as possible, as well as giving customers a chance to shop as environmentally friendly as possible.
Shopping at Krónan

Some Krónan locations also have fast-food restaurants on-site or offer freshly made takeaway options such as sushi.
Sustainability and Environmental Practices
Krónan has implemented several environmental and sustainable practices to minimize its ecological footprint and promote sustainability. Like many other businesses, they encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags and offer biodegradable and reusable bag options at checkout.
To minimize food waste, near-expiry products are sold at discounted prices to ensure that less food goes to waste. Many of the products sold at Krónan have eco-certifications, ensuring that customers have access to environmentally friendly options.
Some locations also offer options to reduce plastic waste. The Soap-Bar, pictured above, allows customers to bring their own bottles and fill them with soap to minimize plastic waste, and recycling stations are available after paying where customers can immediately recycle all plastic packaging of wares they bought.
