Múlaberg’s Menu Pairs Icelandic Ingredients With French-Nordic Cooking
Múlaberg Bistro & Bar's menu changes through the day, with separate lunch, afternoon, bar-snack, and evening menus. All of them build on seasonal ingredients from North Iceland, cooked in a modern French-Nordic style.
The evening menu is the fullest, covering small plates, mains, and steaks. For dinner, the kitchen recommends two to four smaller dishes per person, making it easy to try several flavors in one meal.
Small plates include smoked Arctic char with rye-bread crumble and skyr sauce, beef carpaccio, garlic-and-chili king prawns, and lamb tartare with beetroot and blueberry jam. Larger dishes include baked cod, confit duck leg, lamb rib eye, and beef tenderloin, along with a 400-gram dry-aged Black Angus rib eye.
There are also vegetarian options, including hummus, falafel, and stuffed courgette. For a longer meal, the six-course surprise menu takes about two and a half hours and is served to the whole table. A four-course tasting menu and optional wine pairing are also available.
Lunch on weekdays is more casual, with soup of the day alongside every main, fish of the day, burgers, and a chef's special on Tuesdays. On Friday and Saturday afternoons, the kitchen stays open until 5:00 PM with a shorter menu of steak frites, salmon, duck, and small plates.
A children's menu is available at every service. Desserts include crème brûlée, rhubarb pie, and a cheesecake made with Icelandic whey cheese.
Múlaberg’s Award-Winning Cocktail Bar and Daily Happy Hour
Múlaberg’s bar won the People’s Choice award for Iceland at the 2023 Bartenders’ Choice Awards, and cocktails are a big part of the bar’s appeal. Happy hour runs daily from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with six beers on tap, wine by the glass, champagne, and cocktails such as the Basil Gimlet, Moscow Mule, and Espresso Martini.
Non-alcoholic options are also included in happy hour, with four alcohol-free cocktails, alcohol-free beers, and sparkling drinks. A separate bar-snack menu is available, making it possible to stop by for a drink and a few small plates without committing to a full dinner.
Múlaberg’s Location and Opening Hours in Akureyri
Múlaberg is at Hafnarstraeti 87-89, inside Hótel KEA in the center of Akureyri. Hafnarstraeti is the town’s main street, and the pedestrian shopping stretch runs just below the hotel.
Akureyrarkirkja Church stands on the hill directly above, about two minutes on foot, and the harbor is a short walk downhill in the other direction. In summer, the outdoor patio fills up for the view of the church.
