Description
Hlid BnB provides a beautiful home-away-from-home for travelers to North Iceland and those embarking on a Ring Road circumnavigation. All guests should consider staying here, modern yet rustic, immersed in nature yet close to popular sites, cozy yet affordable.
Location & Nearby
Hlid BnB boasts one of the most beautiful locations in Iceland. It is just off the Ring Road and Diamond Circle sightseeing route, surrounded by dramatic lava landscapes. The magnificent Lake Myvatn Area, renowned for its birdlife, greenery, and geology, is just a short walk south. Here, you can spend hours spotting the dozens of avian species, locating rare moss balls under the waters, and hiking up pseudocraters for incredible panoramas.
By driving just four miles (six kilometers), you can reach either the Dimmuborgir lava fortress or Namaskard Pass. Dimmuborgir is a great place to marvel over lava formations, particularly a hidden, hot spring cave called Grotagja. Several scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed here. You can learn about Icelandic troll culture on-site, as many of these beasts are said to live here.
Namaskard is a mountainside geothermal area with many fuming steam vents and colorful shades in the barren earth.
Godafoss waterfall and Husavik are 30 and 34 miles (49 and 54 kilometers) away, respectively. The former is spectacular, and you can observe it from many angles. It also has a fascinating history you can discover on site. Husavik, meanwhile, is a town that dates back to settlement but is best renowned today for its excellent whale-watching opportunities. Humpback whales are abundant in the local waters, although even rare animals, such as blue whales and belugas, are occasional visitors.
At Husavik, you can get amenities such as groceries, although you will find more in the region’s capital, Akureyri, which is 53 miles (83 kilometers) northwest.
The furthest sites of the Diamond Circle are the waterfall of Dettifoss, the most powerful falls in Europe, and Asbyrgi, a canyon so beautiful it was believed in folklore to be created by the hoof of the horse of Odin, an Old Norse God. These are 43 and 52 miles (70 and 82 kilometers away), respectively.

The rooms of the Hlid BnB are simply furnished with two single beds, and each has a private bathroom with a shower and toiletries.
