Come along on an adventurous trip, off the beaten path, to experience the forces of Icelandic nature. This tour is for anyone who would like to explore the little-seen phenomenon of a naturally formed ice cave or anyone who wants to feel the frosty air on their cheeks as they enjoy the wilderness of Iceland.

The tour departs from the famous glacier lagoon every day at 9 AM and 2 PM, driving approximately 30 minutes off-road to Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. You'll see the best of Iceland on the scenic drive through the Highlands and, once you get yourself to Jökulsárlón on the South Coast, your guides will take care of the driving.

After a short hike through Vatnajökull National Park from the parking area to the cave, your guides will provide you with the right equipment and take you into the magical blue caves. Your guides are professional, experienced and know the caves inside out, so you are in safe hands.

The search for the ice caves each year is an odyssey in itself. It begins in the summer when huge quantities of water have melted from the glacier, running underneath it and forming the shapes of the walls and roof. When the weather turns cold again, these places freeze, and pure glacial water continues to pour down.

Eventually, what's left behind is a cavern of wonders, always unique and unexpected, carefully examined by the guides so that it is safe to enter. Don't miss your chance to see this!

You'll have 45 minutes or so inside the cave to take pictures, admire the deep blue ice and investigate the ice formations in the cave before you jump into a Super Jeep and return to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.

The ice caves are a rare and hugely popular part of winter in Iceland, so reserve your spot now as to not miss out. Check availability by choosing a date.

The tour could not be done on the day we had booked so we were able to go on another (longer!) one insead. The weather was just great and we were only four people on the tour so we had a lot of fun. Our guide Tom took us for several hours around on the glacier and showed us his best spots to get amazing looks at crevasses and ice caves/tunnels. During this, he never stopped explaining and entertaining us with interesting stories. Our lunchbreak was at a hidden small beach next to the impressive front of ice where huge junks of ice happen to break off if you are lucky. Recommended! Thanks a lot!!

Our Guide Tom was extremely nice and polite. His explainings were very clear and complete. The tour was fun and enjoying thanks to a very Sunny weather. The only suggestion is to update the vehicle because it has the front glass all cracked and the side glasses weren't very clear so it was difficult to take pics while driving. However great experience. thanks

The tour in general was amazing. The road although bumpy, super fun! Be prepared with the proper clothing because it is pretty cold up there. Last but not least, our guide Tom was great! He explained everything important about the glaciar, how are they created, the ice caves, etc. Highly recommended!

Fantastic once we got going. Directions getting to correct pickup spot were unclear and since it's pitch black at 9am in December and there were well over 20 tour vehicles all leaving around 9:30, a bunch of us were wandered anxiously in the rain looking for ours. The tour itself was fantastic, as the rain broke once we hit the ice. Our guide got us to three caves, and gave us plenty of time for photos and exploring. Expensive, but relative to other Icelandic costs, well worth it.

It was a truly incredible experience! Our tour guide, Ragnar, was amazing! It was surreal to be driving out on glaciers, walking into ice caves, and seeing the incredible views all around. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

I had a fantastic experience. There is only easy access to a couple of ice caves, so yes, there are times when they will be crowded. I scheduled the first tour of the day and there were only two other people on my tour, so we got a really special experience with our guide. He talked to us about the formation of the caves, interesting Icelandic folklore, and even sang us an old folk song about elves! On our way out he stopped for us to look out at a stunning vista and instigated a little snowball fight. This was a great and very personal experience, but be aware that it is a popular attraction for tourists and there can be busy times.
