Come along on a thrilling snowmobile adventure on the ice of Vatnajökull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. This tour is for anyone who wants to pack their holiday with active days and do more than just sightseeing.

You will meet your group and guides on location (check your voucher, as this changes by season), before hopping into a super jeep capable of handling this volcanic island's challenging terrain. Together, you will make your way through the countryside, then begin to ascend the mighty Vatnajökull glacier.

After receiving some instructions from your guides, and all the necessary safety equipment, you’ll set off. Don’t worry if you are a beginner to snowmobiling; your tour guides have more than 20 years of experience and can help you with any queries. All you need to operate a snowmobile is a valid driver's license and a sense of adventure, but non-drivers can join as passengers.

Vatnajökull is centrally located near many of the most beautiful sites of the south coast. The highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnjukur, is located within sight of your route. Under the ice cap are valleys, mountains and plateaus as well as active volcanoes.

On the glacier, you can explore the vast, white emptiness of the ice with only the muffled sounds of your snowmobile to accompany you. There are few things more thrilling than racing over the pillowy mounds of snow, or whooshing over the icy ridges. If you are less of an adrenaline-junkie, you can simply slowly cruise along to admire the view and take many photos.

You will also have the opportunity to stand on the ancient ice with an active volcano beneath your feet, with unbelievable views of Iceland's interior and south all around you.

Don’t miss this chance to explore the beautiful and iconic Vatnajökull glacier. Check availability by choosing a date!

Good to know:

The weather in Iceland changes quickly, so don't be caught unawares. It is always better to bring a sweater or dress in layers which you may take off if you are too warm. Jeans are not recommended for this tour because denim absorbs moisture quickly once wet and takes a long time to dry, leaving the wearer very cold.

Please note: A valid driver‘s license is needed to operate a snowmobile. Passengers do not need driver´s license.

The guides were hilarious and really made the trip. The weather was...well let's say it rhymes with lizard. They almost had to cancel because visibility was so bad but that didn't dampen their spirits or the quality of their jokes! Was a really enjoyable experience but a shame we couldn't see any view due to poor weather conditions. Driving the snowmobiles was heaps of fun though! See you again next time we're in Iceland! Tip for travellers: bring your own goggles because being in snow is cool but hurts when large chunks hit you right in the eyes!

One of my highlights for the trip. Took off right out of the hostel parking lot where I was staying, very accommodating staff, very friendly, unbelievable weather and views. Highly recommend

We had Great weather up there, enjoying an almost private tour to the glacier (group of 6). After a very quick safety briefing, we spent around an hour on the glacier before the very nice guides Took us back to the Meeting Point, a 45-min-ride. Definitely worth it!

We had a fabulous time! We were not sure what to expect, but Bjarni (sp) and the other guide made is feel at ease very quickly. The safety briefing was outstanding as was the quick lesson on how to drive a snowmobile. We had never driven one before and quickly became comfortable. I highly recommend this tour.

Amazing and unique experience riding a snowmobile to the top of the glacier! Had a blast learning how to use the snowmobile and the views were amazing. Our guide was incredibly generous and made sure we were riding safely. I would definitely do this again and recommend it as a must-do when visiting south Iceland.

If you want to enjoy the beauty of Iceland while you're driving a snowmobile, this is the tour for you. We were lucky to have great weather for our tour and were able to enjoy our time on the glacier. The only suggestion I would have is that the pickup location be indicated when a tour is booked. The reservation indicated meeting at a hostel that we couldn't find. After two phone calls, we were told to wait at a turn off on the highway. It wasn't a problem but it should be made clear when the reservation is booked. Otherwise, it was an amazing experience. Both tour guides that were with us were exceptional.

The best tour I had in Iceland. This is my first time driving a skidoo and I love it. The scenery on the glacier is great, even though we came from Canada and saw those white staff a lot in our winter :) The tour guides are great too.

We had a great time on this tour. Luckily, the weather was amazing - blue, clear skies. Our guides were very good - friendly with good senses of humour. A good day - well worth the money.
