On one of my visits to the Westfjords of Iceland, I visited Arnarfjörður, the second-longest fjord in the Westfjords. It is believed that nowhere else in Iceland have there been more sightings of sea monsters than in this beautiful fjord in Iceland's mysterious Westfjords. We Icelanders have known about the sea monsters ever since the Vikings settled Iceland around 874. Iceland is a volcanic island, and around the country, you will find some 130 volcanoes. Most of them are inactive, and you can visit the volcanic craters, some of which are lake-filled. One of them is even filled with warm, whitish, opaque geothermal water in which you can bathe, like Víti, the explosion crater in the Askja caldera, in my photos above and below. In my last travel blog, I told you about the colourful Seltún geothermal area on the Reykjanes peninsula in SW Iceland. There is another very interesting geothermal area on this peninsula that is well worth a visit: the Gunnuhver geothermal area (named after a female ghost!). You don't have to go far from Reykjavík to see colourful geothermal areas. I have already told you about the Hengill geothermal area in a previous travel blog,  which is only half an hour's drive from the capital city. Another colourful geothermal area is Seltún, located beneath Sveifluháls on the Reykjanes, peninsula in SW Iceland. Seltún is located some 40 km away from Reykjavík.
