Hlidarvatn lake has an area of around 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) and is about 65.6 feet (20 meters) deep at its maximum depth. It is approximately 246 feet (75 meters) above sea level.

How to Get to Hlidarvatn Lake

The easiest way to Hlidarvatn lake is by car. Borgarnes is the nearest large town, around 33.5 miles (54 kilometers) away. From Borgarnes, take the Snaefellsnes road before turning right onto Heydalsvegur road.

This gravel road is marked Budardalur. Follow it for around 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) until you see the lake.

If traveling from Reykjavik, Hlidarvatn lake is around 81 miles (130 kilometers) away via the Hvalfjardagong tunnel.

The town of Stykkisholmur on the Snaefellsnes peninsula is also close to the lake. This means you can also visit as part of Snaefellsnes tours.
