Location of Fjardara Lake and How to Get There

Fjardara lake is only 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Egilsstadir, an easy drive for those touring the country independently.

Fjardara lake is in Seydisfjordur town, at the base of the Seydisfjordur fjord in East Iceland. As you drive to the town, you'll pass the river that feeds the lake, known by the same name. By the town, a small strip of land separates the lake's north side from the fjord. It's just wide enough for a road to run through it, framing the lake.

Fjardara lake is only 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Egilsstadir, an easy drive for those touring the country independently with an affordable rental car. Departing Egisstadir, drive along Road 93 (Seydisfjardarvegur) to Seydisfjordur. The lake is at the end of the road, in the middle of town.

Regular flights connect Reykjavik and Egilsstadir. Those who prefer not to drive to the other side of the country could fly to Egisstadir Airport and rent a car from there.

If happen to be traveling to Iceland by ferry from mainland Europe, you'll arrive in Seydisfjordur. The ferry dock is just over the road from the lake. The two to three-day ferry offers an exciting way for travelers to begin their travels around Iceland.
