It's best to plan ahead before you start your trip to get a feel for what to expect. Check out our video from our visit to the Westfjords, where we cover 5 tips for your road trip in the region.
It's best to plan a summer self-drive tour when exploring the Westfjords so you can enjoy the freedom of a rental car. There are also some Westfjord tours available if you want to mix in some unique experiences like kayaking or hiking through the isolated Hornstrandir Nature Reserve.
Don't miss out on a visit to Dynjandi, arguably the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland, the Raudisandur red sand beach, and the Latrabjarg cliffs, which are great for puffin spotting.
There are also plenty of towns and small villages along the coast, which are worth checking out. The biggest is Isafjordur, where you can find some nice Westfjord accommodations, but we also recommend stopping by Thingeyri for a waffle at Simbahöllinn and enjoying the amazing views from the public swimming pool of Patreksfjordur.
If you get the chance, stop by some of the interesting cultural museums in the region, such as the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft or the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum! For even more information about the region, check out our helpful guide to the Westfjords.
