Jesse Marsh, 51, has been named head coach of the Canadian national team.

The Canadian Soccer Association announced on its website, social media and other official channels on Thursday (July 14) that "Jesse Marsh will lead the Canadian national team as head coach. The organization and Marsh have signed a contract through July 2026, and he will lead the national team at the 2025 Gold Cup and the 2026 FIFA Confederations Cup North and Central America."

Marsh is Hwang Hee-chan's mentor. He coached Hwang during his time at RB Salzburg in Austria. Marsh moved to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 to replace Julian Nagelsmann.

Poor performances caught up with him. Since Nagelsmann's departure, Leipzig have struggled this season. They won just five of their 14 league games. As a result, Leipzig officially parted ways with March in December 2021.

Marsh then took over at Leeds United in March 2022. He arrived at the club during the 2021-2022 season and succeeded in guiding them to stay in the Premier League. However, he was sacked in February 2023 after failing to achieve the same results the following season.

After Jürgen Klinsmann's dismissal, it was reported that Marsh was in the running for the South Korean national team job. It was said that Marsh was the top priority in the negotiations.

At the same time, it was reported that the Canadian national team was also in contact with Marsh. Multiple Canadian media outlets have reported that the Canadian national team is looking at coaches such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, 바카라사이트 Frank Lampard, and Jose Mourinho, and Marsh is also a strong candidate.

Marsh, who was recently considered for the South Korean national soccer team job, eventually landed the Canadian job.

Kevin Blue, president of the Canadian Soccer Association, said: "After a thorough search by experts and stakeholders, I am very pleased to make this official announcement. "Marsh is a transformational leader who will take over at a critical time in our national team's history and will drive the development of soccer in Canada.

"Marsh is a top-level coach with a successful career at the international level and will be a great addition to the national team in CONCACAF and the FIFA World Cup."

"It is a great honor to lead Team Canada," said Marsh. As we prepare for the World Cup on home soil, the dynamic players of Canadian soccer and their potential have inspired me. I am ready to take on this huge responsibility and am eager to get started," said Marsh.

He added: "One of my main goals is to unite the Canadian soccer community to achieve success on and off the field. Let's get to 2026 together."
