FAQ

We recently returned from a ten day self guided tour of Iceland through Guide to Iceland. I could gush for an extended time about Iceland and this trip. The experience was exemplary! Iceland is an amazingly beautiful place that should be on everyone's travel list. Iceland is a physically stunning place that amazed at every turn in the road. From the volcanic environments, the mountains, glaciers and fjords there is an ever changing landscape that keeps you engaged and thrilled. The people are friendly and the food is great. The self guided tour let us pick and choose what we wanted to see and at our own pace. The hotels were welcoming and gracious. The distance between hotels were well paced for our travels. We would do this all again without hesitation. We'll definitely be back to Iceland.

We signed up for the 8 day Circle Tour. We liked the freedom that this gave us. We got a car and hotel reservations, but we could decide which sights we wanted to visit and for how long and we could set our own pace for each day. The hotels ranged from refurbished historic buildings to ultra-modern new hotels. They were all clean and comfortable and the breakfasts they provided were all tasty and filling. There is too much of Iceland to see in eight days, but this tour gave us a chance to sample it all. I highly recommend it. Thank you Guide To Iceland.

Our experience with Guide to Iceland was very easy and worry free. Our travel agent, Melkorka was very helpful and her correspondence with me was timely. All of the hotels that they arranged for us were nice, clean with helpful staff and filling breakfast buffets. Lava auto met us at the airport and everything with them was seamless. Iceland itself was amazing and the itenerary gave us step by step guidance. We thoroughly enjoyed Iceland and it left us wanting more!!! 4 days is simply not enough!!

We had a wonderful time in Iceland. This was our first time in Iceland and having your itinerary was extremely helpful. The itinerary was very detailed and informative, the co-ordinates/directions were perfect and we found all the sites without any difficulty. The car was great with a very quick and easy pick up and drop off. We loved the Blue Lagoon which was very relaxing and a great way to start the trip. We also explored the baths at Fontana spa which was very relaxing too and not as crowded as Blue Lagoon. We ended up sticking to the itinerary for most of the days and managed to see most of the beautiful sites with enough time to spare and relax too. The hotels were all lovely with included breakfast; we loved the Foss hotel glacier Lagoon and the Little Geysir Hotel. The tours we signed up for (Zodiac boat tour and Ice cave tour) were both fantastic. I hope to visit Iceland again!

Autotour de 5 jours | Merveilles de l'ouest de l'Islande

Day 2 driving from Reykjavik to Stykissholmur was interesting as the snow conditions were quite poor and as tourists this was something we were not used to - but we got through it! The Northern Peninsula scenery was stunning, the visit to the Lava Cave memorable, the blue lagoon relaxing , the hotels and restaurants we used were very good and Reykjavik was very interesting. Make use of the weather apps and have a plan for what you want to do. We did and it helped enormously.

We did a tour from Thursday PM to Sunday AM, which wasn’t long enough to do all the suggested sights. But what we saw and did was great. The only change I would have made was the final hotel location down in the south east which was too far to go in such a short time. On the Saturday we did the ice cave tour and then the rest of the day was driving to Reykjavík so I think we shouldn’t have gone further than Vik on this trip. It also meant we didn’t spend any daylight hours in Reykjavik. Aside from that we certain.ly saw a lot and the landscape even during the drive was worth seeing.

We did the 5 day tour and what a tour it was! We did not get to see everything that we originally intended due to limited daylight and an excursion which took up the time we would have spent exploring the Golden Circle. All that aside we really enjoyed it. On our first day on the road we encountered the majestic fury of an Icelandic wind storm. It gave us a deep respect for this country's elements. We were scheduled to sleep in Vik but the road was closed due to "Violent winds". We called the Guide to Iceland 24 hour service and they guided us to a hotel that was close and refunded us the money we originally spent for the Vik hotel. We were flexible in our travel outlook and were pleasantly suprised to find that our new hotel had a perfect view of the volcano at Eyjafjallajökull that erupted in 2010. Our main hope was to see the Northern lights but that didnt happen either. All in all in was an awesome experience. My advice: Have a plan, but be flexible and willing to ditch the plan if need be. This magical land has a way all of it's own of turning your expectations on it's head. But I gaurantee your experience of Iceland will be one of memories that last a lifetime.

Autotour de 8 jours | Les incontournables de l'Islande

I did the 8 day self drive tour solo in October with the budget 2wd option. As I had an extra day either side Guide to Iceland organised for me to have the same rental car for the two extra days with the pick up and drop off from the airport. They also offered to arrange the extra nights accommodation aswell but I had already arranged my own. Everything was amazing, all of the accommodation was great. Make sure you pop into the office in Reykjavik when you arrive to grab your welcome pack and to ask any last bits of advice like places to stop and eat driving between destinations. The staff there were super lovely and even printed a few suggested routes for different days off for me. I only did the one activity tour, the amphibious glacier boat tour and it was a definite highlight of the trip! Another highlight was the Mývatn Nature Baths (much nicer than the Blue Lagoon) which I definitely recommend putting aside at least two hours for when in the area. The only thing I would suggest doing a bit different is splitting the golden circle and the drive from Reykjavik to Vík into two separate days as with the limited amount of daylight (in early Oct) there simply wasn't enough time to fit everything in and it was already getting dark by the time I reached Seljalandsfoss. Which was another highlight of my trip and as a little tip if you plan on going right up behind it make sure to pop on some waterproof outer layers (including pants) as you will get absolutely drenched but it's worth it! So if you have time plan an extra day before or after to do the golden circle on it's own. All in all a wonderful experience and I can't wait to come back!

Autotour de 5 jours | A la découverte du Sud jusqu'à Jokulsarlon

We spend 7 days in Iceland. We had an excellent time on this tour of 5 days. We did everything we wanted to see and more. They were very accommodating, and helped us when we wanted to customize our itinerary and help to rent the car for 2 more days. In the proposed itinerary, there were sometimes illogical things (ex: Sleeping in vik, returning to fall Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss and after sleeping in Höfn). On the other hand, the information provided was useful and interesting. The only downside would be regarding accommodations. Much less "Comfort" than it was shown on the website. In several places, the Wifi did not work very well. But, the breakfasts were fine. Regarding the car, everything went well. The pickup was in time. The staff at the car hire was not very talkative and gentle. (I understand he was 6am). He would give me a manuel transmission when i asked for automatic. I paid for the GPS i didn't wanted. Except that, everything was fine. I appreciate the postcards given and the stamps, the map, from the staff of Guide To Iceland. In general, I recommend this experience. We really appreciate the beautiful landscapes and the tranquility of the country.

Fantastic experience. We discovered strange and wonderful things every day, and gorgeous scenery everywhere we went. The hotels were quite nice, especially the Stracta Hella, Hotel Eskifjordur, and the Hotel Lotus in Reykjavik. The car rental process was easy and seamless. Really appreciate how they helped cancel/rebook our accommodations twice because of the ring road closure and early reopening. Very responsive and helpful. Happy!

We spent 3 days exploring Iceland using the self drive tour suggested by Guide to Iceland. The country is amazing, I have been to 68 countries and Iceland is up there with the best of them. Our accommodation was great, the car hire seamless and the attractions we visited were everything we hoped for. I loved every minute in Iceland and I would recommend this Tour to anyone.

Our trip to Iceland was amazing! We got to see everything on that was written out for us. The directions for the most part were straight forward and easy to follow with the GPS given at the rental car. We only had one issue when going to our second hotel because the wrong coordinates where given on the itinerary which took us an hour in the wrong direction. However, we were able to get assistance and found the correct hotel. Breakfast at the hotels was very fulling and the rooms were comfortable. We were able to see the Northern Lights which were beautiful. Overall, the trip was great and I would definitely come back to see the northern coast. You won't go wrong booking this trip !

7 Day Self Drive Tour | The Ring Road of Iceland

Words can not begin to describe how amazing this trip was. Guide to Iceland was easily reachable at all times during our trip and were a big help when there were some last minute changes due to road conditions that had to be made. Iceland was a wonderful country and we only have warm memories of this chilly island. I'll say it again, it was AMAZING!!!!
