What Are the Best Airlines to Fly to Iceland?

Almost every international flight to Iceland lands at Keflavik International Airport, 50 minutes from Reykjavik. Icelandair operates about 64% of the airport’s summer seats, and foreign airlines the rest. The other airlines that fly to Iceland fall into three groups:
-
Full-service airlines that fly from their home hubs: SAS, Lufthansa, British Airways, LOT, United, Delta, and Air Canada.
-
Low-cost airlines, strongest from the UK and continental Europe: easyJet, Wizz Air, Transavia, Vueling, Iberia Express, and, in winter, Jet2.
-
Smaller and leisure airlines, often seasonal: Discover, Edelweiss, WestJet, Air Transat, Alaska Airlines, and Eurowings.

Which Airline Is Best to Fly to Iceland From My Country?
Each country gets a verdict with a short explanation and the full table of nonstop airlines. The score runs from 0 to 100 and weighs four factors: flights per week in summer and winter (35%), the cheapest nonstop fare (25%), 2025 punctuality (25%), and comfort ratings (15%).
The verdicts below go country by country, starting with the biggest source of visitors to Iceland. The full scoring method of the study is explained at the end of this article.
How to read the tables: An asterisk (*) marks an on-time rate from AirHelp for October 2024 to September 2025, because the airline is not in Cirium’s ranking. Jet2’s on-time rate comes from OAG for May 2026 only. A dash (—) in the on-time column means no comparable figure was published, so the airline is scored at the Cirium group median of 80.3%. A dash in the fare column means no nonstop fare was found.

How We Did This Study

The Guide to Iceland airline study ranks every airline that flies nonstop to Keflavik International Airport from Iceland’s biggest source markets. Each airline gets a score from 0 to 100, based on flights, price, punctuality, and comfort. The data was collected in September 2026.
The study covers Iceland’s 15 biggest source markets, ranked by foreign visitor departures in 2025. The visitor numbers come from the Icelandic Tourist Board. Of these 15 markets, 11 have nonstop flights to Iceland, and each of those 11 countries gets its own airline ranking.
Four of the 15 biggest markets have no nonstop flight to Iceland: China, Australia and New Zealand, India, and Taiwan. The study covers these four markets, plus Japan, in a separate section on one-stop routes.
Routes, seasons, and weekly flight numbers come from airline schedules and announcements, and from Isavia, the operator of Keflavik International Airport. Flight schedules on Kayak, Google Flights, and FlightsFrom were also checked in September 2026.
How We Scored Each Airline
Each airline is scored only against other airlines from the same country. The score combines four measures.
-
Flights and year-round service (35%): The score uses each airline’s weekly flights to Iceland in peak summer and in winter. Each season is capped at 14 flights a week, so an airline flying twice a day gets full points. More flights in winter mean a higher score.
-
Price (25%): The score uses the cheapest nonstop round-trip fare shown for each airline on Kayak and Google Flights on September 28, 2026. The cheapest airline in each country gets full points, and more expensive airlines get fewer points. All fares were converted to US dollars at European Central Bank rates.
-
Punctuality (25%): The score uses the share of each airline’s flights that arrived within 15 minutes of schedule in 2025, from the Cirium On-Time Performance Review 2025.
-
Airlines that aren’t in Cirium’s ranking use their AirHelp Score on-time rate for October 2024 to September 2025.
-
Jet2 uses the OAG figure for May 2026.
-
Airlines with no published figure are scored at the median of the Cirium group, 80.3%.
-
-
Comfort (15%): The score uses the average of each airline’s Skytrax star rating and its Tripadvisor rating, where available.
How We Analyzed Reddit Posts
The Reddit section uses posts from r/VisitingIceland, Reddit’s biggest Iceland travel forum. Guide to Iceland searched the forum for Icelandair, Delta, United, Air Canada, easyJet, British Airways, Lufthansa, SAS, Wizz Air, Jet2, and “best airline.” Each Reddit search returns up to 100 posts, and the searches together found 457 unique posts from 2015 to 2026.
Each mention of an airline was classified as positive, negative, mixed, or neutral. The analysis used post titles and post text, not comments. Reddit posts are not part of the airline score, because only Icelandair and Delta have enough opinion posts to compare.
How We Tracked Monthly Fares
The cheapest-month chart uses Kayak’s median round-trip fare to Iceland for each month over the previous 12 months. These monthly fares include one-stop flights, so they differ from the nonstop fares used in the airline scores.
Limitations of This Study
-
Fares change often. The fares in this study are a snapshot from September 2026, so read them as each airline’s general price level rather than a price quote.
-
Travel dates vary. The cheapest fare for each airline comes from a range of travel dates, so fares are not compared on the same day.
-
Punctuality is network-wide. The figures cover each airline’s whole network, not only flights to and from Keflavik. No airline-by-airline punctuality table for Keflavik International Airport is published for 2025 or 2026.
-
Schedules change by season. Airlines can add, cut, or move routes after September 2026. Check the current schedule before you book.

Guide to Iceland Editorials is the shared byline for our content team. We use it on pieces several people worked on together, where no single writer owns the article, and on anything rewritten often enough that a personal byline would be misleading. We also publish our original data studies under this profile. Each study answers a question travelers ask about Iceland, using primary sources such as booking records, traveler reviews and public datasets, and every study is quality checked by human experts before it's published. Everything under this byline is researched and reviewed by people who live and work in Iceland.
