Location & Nearby
Saxa Guesthouse is in the center of Stodvafjordur village, next to the beautiful harbor. This village is in the Eastfjords area of Iceland, which is characterized by narrow fjords and steep cliffs—it’s truly gorgeous. This fjord-side village is home to a gas station, a convenience store, and a restaurant. The café at the guesthouse is also a lovely place to sit and have a drink.
The property is also close to some of the best and most famous sights in East Iceland. The Petra Stone Collection is under 400 yards (about 350 meters) away from the guesthouse. There are also several hiking trails that lead along the beautiful coastline.
Egilsstadir is 45 miles (73 kilometers) from Saxa Guesthouse. This is the largest town in East Iceland – it has good amenities, such as a large grocery store and nice restaurants. From here, you can visit Lagarfljot lake. Legend has it that this lake houses a mythical creature, the Lagarfljot Wyrm — it’s the Loch Ness Monster’s Icelandic cousin! Keen hikers should also visit the Hallormsstadaskogur forest on the eastern side of the lake. This is the biggest forest in Iceland and offers lovely walking trails.
Other nearby towns include Breiddalsvik, which is 11 miles (18 kilometers) away, and Faskrudsfjordur, which is 17 miles (27 kilometers) away. You can also drive to Seydisfjordur, one of the Eastfjords’ most picturesque fishing villages — it’s 60 miles (98 kilometers) from the guesthouse. Hop in the car and start exploring this gorgeous area of Iceland.
