2 Hour Fat Bike Tour of Lake Myvatn Sights with Transfer from Reykjahlid

Come along on this fat bike adventure around the Lake Mývatn area. This tour is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in the landscapes of Iceland’s north, in shine or snow, while keeping in shape on their holiday.

This tour begins in the village of Reykjahlíð, by the Mývatn area. You will meet your guides here, where you will be introduced to your off-road fat bikes. These great little vehicles are perfect for handling the terrain of Iceland, which is perfect in this northern region; Mývatn is covered in lava fields, hills, craters and, in winter, expanses of snow.

You will set out to explore the area with your guide, an expert biker as well as a knowledgeable local who can tell you about the history, geography and folklore of the sites you see. What these sites are will depend a lot on the conditions, as certain areas are only accessible, or much more appealing, in different seasons.

Potential places, however, include Dimmuborgir, a dramatic lava field the name of which translates to ‘the dark fortress’ due to the scale of the formations here. You may also see Skútustaðír, a row of very unusual pseudo-craters, a rare feature of the earth that is more typically found on Mars. You may also stop by Grótagjá, hot-spring cave that (like Dimmuborgir) was used in the shooting of Game of Thrones for scenes North of the Wall.

Regardless of the specific places, any route around Mývatn will expose you to beautiful views over the pristine waters of the lake, volcanic craters and lava fields, incredible surrounding mountains, and beautiful flora and fauna. 

For two hours, you will ride over old, little-used trails and routes to marvel over the scenery, with plenty of stops for photography.

Finally, you will return your fat bike to the base camp, say farewell to your guides, and continue your northern adventure.
