Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Westman Islands with this excellent tour that combines sightseeing and puffin-watching. This excursion should not be missed by any who are passionate about wildlife and nature.

This tour begins in our office at the harbour in Westman Islands. The small size of your vehicle means that you can expect a personalised experience with your friendly guide.

The order in which you visit the sites will depend on the weather, but you have a fair few on your agenda, and will reach each as you travel around the island.

You will, for example, get to walk into the crater of the Eldfell volcano, which erupted in the middle of town without warning in 1973, threatening to engulf the whole island. You’ll also see the famous ‘elephant rock’ formation, where the cliff face looks uncannily like its namesake, and the beautiful valley of Herjólfsdalur, where there are ruins from one of the island’s first settlers.

Of course, you will also reach the best puffin watching cliffs on the island to admire an array of seabirds that include puffins. Over 60% of the world’s North Atlantic puffins nest in Iceland, and more nest in the Westman Islands than any other part of the country, from May to September.

If conditions allow, you’ll also go to Sprangan, where your guide will show off their skills swinging and scaling up and down a cliff, as is tradition on the archipelago as a way of retrieving eggs and down.

Finally you will head to the puffin sanctuary, which will soon also include a beluga sanctuary. Here, you can learn about the fish and birds of Iceland, and meet one of our famous puffin up close.

Don’t miss this thrilling and immersive tour of the Westman Islands. Check availability by choosing a date.

This tour was just fantastic. It starts with a gorgeous ferry ride into the small port of the island. We met out guide, Bidde (?), Who was just phenomenally knowledgable about the island - he was born and raised, and it turns out his family arrived back in the 900s. He literally caught a bird with his bare hands and brought it back to show the group (not a puffin, but he promised is a puffin up close), and he was true to his work. We got right up close to a sweet little puffin!! Honestly, I had been looking forwards to this moment for months, and it did not disappoint. Learning about the surrounding volcanic land was really fascinating! Just a stunning island. Thank you SO much for a great tour!

We went on two different tours, Oli, from www.icelandtaxitours.is https://www.facebook.com/IcelandicTaxiTours was awesome, he is awesome, knows the history and takes you on a very nice tour of the area. We went on the Golden circle tour, with couple of stops that were unique. Definitely contact them for a tour. Oli and Sigrun are GREAT!!! The other was on westman island with https://eyjatours.com/. Again, the tour guide was great. Its a shorter tour, but the island isnt that big, and you learn alot. I suggest anyone who has not been iceland take a tour, you'll learn and see more than trying to handle it yourself.

The guide was very knowledgeable and fun. Ending by meeting his friend the puffin was the icing on the cake!
